🚀 Exciting times at the 2024 Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) Convention in Adelaide! 🌟 Our own Leigh Smith delivered an insightful presentation on the many challenges and lessons learnt from the construction of the 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 (𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗠) pipeline project on the outskirts of Melbourne. 🔧 The project involved installing a 51km 20” Gas Transmission Pipeline (including 25 crossings), 3 Main Line Valve Stations, as well as an additional 450m pipeline segment between the Scraper Station & Control Valve. As the project progressed the team encountered many challenges, ranging from limited access, cultural heritage, inclement weather, flooding, and particularly rocky ground conditions. From a contractor’s perspective, key take-aways included the critical importance of land access and working collaboratively with clients from project inception to fully understand the risks and avoid additional costs. Leigh’s insights underscore the complexities of pipeline construction and the importance of teamwork and thorough planning. 👏 👷Congratulations are in order for Doug Wood, who has been honored with the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗔𝗣𝗚𝗔 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 this morning at the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) Convention Awards ceremony. With over 25 years of experience and a track record of supervising the construction of more than 1,900 kilometers of pipelines, Doug’s dedication and leadership in the field are truly commendable. His journey from an apprentice plumber to a distinguished manager showcases his exceptional skills and commitment to excellence. Spiecapag is incredibly proud to count Doug as part of its team. Doug is currently leading the Kurri Kurri 14" Lateral Pipeline Project as Construction Manager, exemplifying the dedication and expertise that drive our success. Well done, Doug! 📣🌿🥇 Proud of our Western Australian HDD team, who received further recognition today at the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) Convention Awards ceremony! Winner of the coveted 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, the team achieved significant fresh water and emissions savings thanks to four construction initiatives: 🩸 Change in composition of drilling fluid, 🌊 Replacement of freshwater by seawater, 💧 Use of Gluon for topsoil management, and ♻️ Recycling of water used in hydrotesting. 🌿 🌿 🌿 🌿 As we mark the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗜 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀, we have much to celebrate! Amongst our hundreds of initiatives to improve our projects’ environmental performance, two of Spiecapag’s initiatives have been recognised with the runner-up prize at the IPLOCA 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 ceremony recently held in Sorrento, Italy.   Congrats to our Dunkirk Equipment Depot team in France, who reduced water consumption on site thanks to the installation of a 10,000-litre water tank to collect rainwater, enabling us to clean our fleet of 1,150 machines and prepare them for new challenges around the world, while contributing to reducing our carbon footprint.   Special mention to our Western Australian HDD team for receiving the runner-up prize by contributing to significant fresh water and emissions savings via four construction initiatives:   ♻️ Drilling fluid ♻️ Seawater replacement ♻️ Topsoil management ♻️ Hydrotest recycling   🔎 Overall, the project team estimated a freshwater saving of 427ML (or 171 Olympic swimming pools 🏊🏊🏊🏊🏊), and a reduction of 1,683 tonnes of emissions from transport and production (equivalent to taking 365 cars off the road for a year 🚗 🚗 🚗 🚗 🚗). Great turn out at the #AuWE in Melbourne! The two-day Conference and Exhibition was an excellent opportunity to hear from both regulators and developers about the opportunities and challenges the industry is facing around environment concerns and community engagement.   These issues are very familiar to the Spiecapag and HDI Lucas teams, who have been delivering pipelines, ducts and conduits in both environmentally and residentially sensitive areas for decades.
