Improvements in #IoT, #5G, and #telecommunication can make or break these types of implementation. 🚧 Australia's Infrastructure Challenges and Opportunities 🚧 Attending the Highways AU Expo provided invaluable insights into the complexities and growth opportunities facing Australia's infrastructure sector. Here are three key takeaways: ⛓️💥 Supply Chain Constraints: Australia’s major public infrastructure pipeline is under pressure from rising material costs (steel imports are up 20% in the past two years) and a shortage of skilled labour. These challenges are pushing project timelines and forcing strategic shifts in procurement and workforce development. 🚚 Shift Towards Outer Suburbs: With an estimated 500,000 people moving away from central Melbourne, infrastructure designs are increasingly focusing on commuting needs. This population shift underscores the need for improved transport links and local infrastructure to support suburban growth and maintain urban connectivity. 💵 Funding & Project Delivery: Australia faces significant funding challenges, with shifts in federal and state financing ratios impacting project viability. Australia's federal infrastructure funding is increasingly focused on larger projects, often those valued at $250 million or more. Infrastructure projects planned in smaller regions like Tasmania may be excluded from federal funding and face potential delays and cost blowouts. This week, we welcomed our Commercial Director, Ben Duncker and Commercial Manager (International), Phil Luke back from a trip to Australia. ✈️🌏 Ben and Phil attended the National Roads and Traffic Expo in #Melbourne, where they caught up with members of the supply chain and spent time with our partner Ingal Civil Products at their stand, with a demo piece of #HighwayGuard taking centre stage! Ben and Phil were also treated to a site visit by RPM Hire, where they were shown how RPM have utilised HighwayGuard™ to support the major Eastern Freeway Upgrades, which connects to the North East Link project and will see the transformation of Melbourne’s infrastructure.
