  • Today, we marked International Day of People with Disability (#IDPwD) through meaningful celebrations and recognition events across the department. The 2024 theme, 'Amplifying the leadership of people with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future', resonates deeply with the values we uphold every day. The DHS Disability Services team hosted vibrant celebrations at homes and offices, while the Disability Strategic Policy and Reform team facilitated the final Disability Engagement Group (DEG) meeting of the year. This event featured a special visit from Minister Cook, who engaged with the group to discuss the significance of the day. • Today is International Day to End Violence Against Women and marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. Domestic, family, and sexual violence is the most common form of violence experienced by women and children. At the Department of Human Services (DHS), 75% of families we work with are impacted by domestic violence and our teams often work in homes where violence is active. Early support is critical for families with complex challenges, particularly where domestic violence is present. The Child and Family Support System focuses on both child safety and functional improvements within the family, to help family members understand the harmful impacts of violence and guide them toward positive change. For anyone seeking support for domestic, family and sexual violence, our 12 Safety Hubs located across both metro and regional areas of South Australia, provide access to essential information and resources. These hubs connect individuals to a wide range of services, including referrals for health, legal aid, financial counselling, counselling and housing options, all in one place. DHS is committed to helping create a society where families can thrive without fear. Join the 16 Days of Activism and help promote respectful relationships in your home, workplace and community. • Domestic, family, and sexual violence remain the most common forms of harm to women and children—and they are preventable. Monday marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December), a global campaign by the United Nations to raise awareness that violence against women and girls is a violation of basic human rights. This annual initiative calls on individuals, communities, and organisations to unite and take action against all forms of abuse—physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and psychological. Candlelight vigils will light the night in the Adelaide Hills, Gawler, Port Noarlunga, and Goolwa. 🌟 Join a vigil or engage in meaningful conversations to help spark change. Violence is not acceptable. Let’s stand together to prevent it. Learn more and find events near you: https://lnkd.in/gnM8KtvY #HumanServicesSA #16DaysOfActivism #NoExcuse
