In response to calls for a national marketing campaign by Canada’s international education professionals, IDP has launched a sector-wide video campaign titled “There’s a future in Canada for you”. Featuring current international students and alumni from more than 35 leading institutions sharing their positive experiences in Canada, this peer-led initiative aims to help ensure students feel welcome and excited as they embark on their Canadian studies. “IDP is committed to sharing the voices of students and the sector and amplifying the exceptional study opportunities that Canada offers," said Christine Wach, SVP Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations, IDP. "We will continue to support our partners through this new policy landscape and ensure that Canada remains a top destination for international students." The UN Refugee Agency is joining forces with IELTS – which is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP and Cambridge University Press & Assessment – to offer hundreds of displaced people the chance to take the world’s most trusted English language test for free. Only 7% of refugees of university age who wish to continue their studies can access higher education, compared to a global average of 42%. Through partnering with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the provision of free tests, IELTS aims to enable a cohort of displaced refugees to build a long-term future via education and work. "Even while the sector keeps the dialogue open with government about what the longer term vision for international higher education looks like..., there is still work the sector can do. This need not fall to institutions working individually; there is scope for collaborating to develop, and test approaches jointly " Great piece by IDP's Rachel MacSween and Wonkhe, calling on the UK international education community to work together for sustainable growth and improved student outcomes.

As we head into the final day of #aiec2024, we want to acknowledge IDP’s global team. Over 100 colleagues from around the world gathered in Melbourne this week to learn, share, and advocate for better student and test taker outcomes. We are proud to co-present #aiec2024 with International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and provide a forum for our sector colleagues to work together for a stronger international education community.

“With unity and determination, we will build a brighter future for generations to come.” These were the words India’s Minister for Education, the Hon. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan shared as he addressed the audience Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) yesterday. As an organisation that supports tens of thousands of students from India each year to achieve their global education goals, we couldn’t agree more with Minister Pradhan’s words. Pictured here is our CEO, Tennealle O'Shannessy, welcoming Minister Pradhan to Melbourne and #aiec2024.

Today we release Emerging Futures 6, our latest research to help governments and institutions better understand what motivates international students. Over the past 12 months, there have been several big policy changes in key study destinations. Our research shows that students are now less certain about their study plans and are more open to switching destinations to realise their global goals. We are proud of our IDP colleagues for this important study, which will ensure international student voices are heard at a critical time for our industry and can shape more meaningful policies. "Our students, like Nutcha, and their families, spend years planning their international education. Current challenges create hurdles, but they don’t extinguish the spark our students have to transform their lives. This means our role in creating a quality experience that positions them to thrive becomes even more crucial. A lot might still feel uncertain, but one thing I am sure of: we will take on this challenge, together. United by our shared belief that international education makes the world a kinder, more tolerant and safer place." With these words, Tennealle O'Shannessy, our CEO, opened #AIEC2024. Congratulations to our teams who have worked tirelessly to present this event with IEAA.
