Proudly not-for-profit. Creating sustainable communities through education, action and participation since 1966.
About us
KESAB environmental solutions is South Australia’s leading not-for-profit (NFP) organisation in delivering world-class environmental sustainability programs. The scope of our community change and education programs, combined with our trained and skilled project managers, positions us amongst the most respected and capable NFP environmental organisations in Australia. Much of our work is ground-breaking and is studied and emulated around the world, including our Clean Site (Building and Construction Best Practice), Litter Less (schools) and Butt Free Australia programs. Because sustainability, waste reduction, resource recovery and reuse, climate change and water conservation all require proactive responses, KESAB works collaboratively and co-operatively with governments, industry, businesses and communities to encourage innovation, action and behavioural change. Each year, we’re involved in community participation and environmental improvement activities that account for more than 700,000 person hours; are valued at AUD$30 million; and involve approximately 300 towns & communities, 800 schools and community groups through Wipe Out Waste and NRM (natural resource management) Education, 220 Road Watch groups, thousands of volunteers, 45 local councils, more than 50 corporations & businesses, and State & Federal governments. In 2015, KESAB environmental solutions was honoured to win the United Nations Association of Australia Sustainability Education Award. The award recognised KESAB's long standing commitment to environmental education at a community level. KESAB environmental solutions is the South Australian Member of the Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) National Association

The team at KESAB has been doing all things since the Breakfast with the Minister nearly a month ago (feels like MUCH longer) as we race towards the end of the year. The team has hosted excursions with 11 classes of students who visited the KESAB Education Centre at Integrated Waste Services and Jeffries with students eager to learn "there is no such thing as away". We have run 20 incursions in schools and community including the hugely popular Litterless (funded through Green Industries SA's Wipe Out Waste program), Journey of My Food Incursions, Nude food lunches, paper recycling, and metals and crafted re-usuable Christmas crackers all the time educating about sustainability, environment, circular economy, single-use plastics, waste and upcycling. We launched our newly fit-out Education Centre at Statewide Recycling, conducted organics bins inspections for Councils, waste education doorstepping, conducted a business waste audit, travelled to Freeling, Port Augusta and Port Pirie and spent some time with our great partners Adelaide's Finest Frewville & Pasadena Foodland and attended the launch of their beautiful hub space at Forestville. Deep breath (we have probably missed something). We presented at a forum for Federal Member for Adelaide Steve Georganas on Energy, and had a presence at the LGA South Australia AGM and our INBINS were used at the Rotary Club's Christmas Gala at West Lakes. And, last week we had the absolute pleasure of having a day at The Forktree Project with Liz Blumer and Tim Jarvis AM, where we learned first hand about about the fantastic work they are doing, with their team, in biodiversity, regeneration of endangered plant species, waste/circular economy/repurposing and revegetation and we got our hands nicely into the soil and hopefully helped a bit, as we discussed things we might do together. Not bad for a not-for-profit! We love what we do. Always for the environment.

Thank you again to everyone who came along to our 2024 Breakfast with the Minister yesterday. We value the ongoing support of our members, partners and colleagues and hope you found it interesting and valuable. As mentioned, the 2023-2024 KESAB Annual Report is now available on our website www.kesab.asn.au via the Annual Reports link. We have decided not to print this year to save resources, but of course it is available in pdf format should you wish to do so. Thank you for a great year, and looking forward to our continuing partnerships. We will have the launch of our new website coming next year as well. #kesab #annualreport #education #behaviourchange #community #resourcerecovery #environment #climatechange #localgovernment @ Green Industries SA Green Adelaide Department for Environment and Water Department for Education, South Australia LGA South Australia Jeffries Peats Integrated Waste Services Cleanaway Waste Management Sims Metal Veolia Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia East Waste - Eastern Waste Management Authority City of Unley Recyclers SA Solo Resource Recovery Statewide Recycling Coopers Brewery RAA

Exciting news. Shackleton Greatest Story of Survival is starting on Netflix on 31st October! It was always my goal to make a film highlighting Shackleton’s leadership and its relevance to today’s global issues and it was great working alongside Directors Bobbi Hansel and Caspar Mazzotti to make this a reality. #Shackleton #leadership #climatechange #environment

CONGRATULATIONS! As one part of KESAB's new deep-dive East Waste - Eastern Waste Management Authority schools program, this year students researched food waste and one activity was to create informative videos. These videos were open for public 'People's Choice ' vote as well as a voting panel. Videos reached a huge number of people, taking those messages deeper into the community, with approx 1000 Votes! This week we held a showcase at Marryatville Primary School and it was great to see so many people come along. Congratulations to St Francis of Assisi (SFOA) primary school for winning both the peoples choice award and the judges award for their excellent video, and well done to all the other East Waste Schools Program schools, we were thrilled at the reach and learnings. Well done to Natalie (Mario) and Alessia (Luigi) for being the voice of sustainability for SFOA. We are so proud of all the students and the videos (have a look below) and it was very hard to pick a winner. Thanks also to the support of East Waste - Eastern Waste Management Authority for this program and Jeffries for providing compost in a compostable bag for all the schools and to our partners Green Adelaide for coming along. Looking forward to another great program next year. #sustainability #education #schools #community #KESAB environmental solutions #wipeoutwaste #behaviourchange #blackfriarspriory #colonellightgardensprimaryschool #goodwoodprimaryschool #magillschool #stfrancisofassisi #stmonicasparishschool Green Industries SA Department for Education, South Australia https://lnkd.in/gHcuXjGH .

HUGE congratulations to Port Pirie Regional Council who last week won the Australian Resource Recovery Awards for our Weekly FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) Transition. This national award recognised those that are recovering more, extending the life of resources, mitigating carbon and making lasting change for the community, business and the planet while paving the way to help reach Australia's target of 80% resource recovery by 2030. Council’s Weekly FOGO transition was introduced in March 2024 across the Council region, with an average of 67% of all material gathered from their kerbside collection service currently being diverted from landfill. AMAZING results. KESAB couldn't be more proud to have been part of this successful project, showing what can be done when the collaboration, will and commitment is there. Such great work. And a win for the environment and reducing food waste. Thanks for having us, we love working with you.
