Promoting safety and preventing childhood injuries in Western Australia.
About us
Kidsafe WA is the leading independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting safety and preventing childhood injuries and accidents in Western Australia. Injuries are the leading cause of death in Australian children aged one to fourteen, accounting for nearly half of all deaths in this age group. More children die of injury than cancer, asthma and infectious diseases combined. Many of these deaths can be prevented. Kidsafe WA works in the community to educate and inform parents and children on staying safe at home, at play and on the road. Kidsafe was originally known as the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia and founded in 1979. The Western Australian division was established in 1980, while the name Kidsafe was adopted nationally in 1993. Since the establishment of Kidsafe, the number of child deaths and hospitalisations has halved.

If a toy uses button batteries, make sure they are secure. If you suspect your child has swallowed a button battery, immediately call the WA Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. Is your pool gate propped open? 🏊♀️ According to the Royal Life Saving WA 2023 Drowning Report, toddlers (ages 0-4) have the third highest rate of fatal drowning incidents in Western Australia among all age groups. Home swimming pools ranked among the top three locations for these incidents, and 47.4% of cases involved a door or gate that was propped open. To ensure safety, never prop open your pool gate, and always supervise children closely when they are near water. Do you know who's supervising? 🏊♀️ Children should be supervised by an adult around any depth of water. Supervision should be constant, active and "within arm's reach" of your child, not an occasional glance between reading or doing chores. Designate an adult responsible for actively supervising children around water at events or family gatherings and ensure everyone knows who it is.
