Facing increasing demand and the need to ensure future water security, Barwon Water recently completed a vital upgrade to Birregurra's water supply. As part of this project, our team constructed a new 12.2 x 8.2 m 750kL concrete storage tank, utilising Holcim's low-carbon eco-concrete, enhancing the project's sustainability impact. Leed's quality and safety systems were praised by the client.   The project also involved constructing access roads, a disinfection station, and inlet and outlet pipework. Access to the site, which crossed private property, required proactive engagement with the landowner. By working constructively, we ensured farming activities could continue uninterrupted during construction. Barwon Water recognised that the respectful and cooperative relationships established were key to the project's success. Congratulations to Barwon Water and all the contributing suppliers and partners for delivering this important water supply upgrade!

What a year 💥 We've had a busy 2024, delivering important civil infrastructure from the Snowy Mountains to Birregurra and Kangaroo Island. From water storage to wetland improvements and wharf redevelopments, we've completed a diverse range of projects that are making a difference through improved road safety, secured water supplies, enhanced sewer systems, and support for Australia's journey toward renewable energy. At Leed, we're driven by quality work and making meaningful contributions to the communities we serve — through training, local employment, industry partnerships, and support for social enterprises and community groups. The engagement and positive feedback from the communities we've worked in this year has been truly humbling. A huge thank you to the community, our team, partners and clients for making this year such a success. We can't wait to build on these achievements in 2025!

Works are progressing well on our latest project with Bellingen Shire Council – the Urunga Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade.    This $20M project forms part of the Sewering Coastal Villages project. It will enhance the facility’s capacity and ensure it meets future demands through the construction of a new inlet structure, IDEA reactor, sludge lagoons, chemical storage plant, and UV dosing facility. We recently welcomed the IPWEA Mid North Coast chapter for a site visit and presented some of the innovative solutions we’ve implemented. Initiatives included reducing the original depth of the lagoon to avoid groundwater and potential acid sulphate soils.     Stay tuned for more updates as we continue progress on this vital infrastructure, supporting a sustainable future for the residents of Bellingen Shire Council. Construction has commenced on the Lake Hawdon North Regulator and Fishway project in South Australia’s south-east. Jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Government of South Australia, this project is part of the Healthy Coorong, Healthy Basin Regional Bird Refugia project aimed at improving the quality and availability of wetland habitat for shorebirds in the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Limestone Coast regions, including the sharp-tailed sandpiper (pictured below). Leed has been contracted to deliver a new regulator structure on Drain L to the east of Robe. This structure will enable managed inundation within the Lake, along with the construction of a rock-ramp fishway and associated exit structures. The fishway will provide a safe passage for fish to move around the regulator structure during operation, ensuring their movements are not disturbed by its function. We look forward to working closely with the Department for Environment and Water to deliver this important habitat restoration project. 📸 Images supplied by Department for Environment and Water

Leed is pleased to share that we are one of three contractors to partner with SA Water under their new Pipeline Delivery Panel. This model will enable the delivery of critical water infrastructure to support housing growth and sustain reliable water services for South Australia. We are already making progress on the first projects, which includes the design and early works for more than 4.5 kilometres of DN750 and DN1000 MSCL water mains at Angle Vale, in collaboration with our partners WSP in Australia and Gould Thorpe Planning Pty Ltd (GTP). Founded in SA and with extensive self-performing capabilities, Leed is excited to get to work on this four-year program. With the potential for extension beyond 2028, the program promises to deliver meaningful training opportunities, create employment outcomes, and drive efficiencies that benefit South Australians. Future STEM leaders 🚀🦺   Earlier this month, our team had the privilege of participating in the STEM Industry Partnership Day at Cooma North Public School with over 350 students from four primary schools.   By showcasing the real-world applications of STEM, including some of our exciting projects and plant, we aimed to inspire young students and spark curiosity about our industry. It was truly rewarding to see the student's enthusiasm as they engaged with our team and learned about the diverse career paths available in engineering and construction. STEM specialist teacher Chrissy said, "Thank you so much for Leed's part in our STEM day last Friday! It was a huge success, and all the students (and teachers) loved it!"

Celebrating 75 Years of the Snowy Scheme. Leed is proud to have worked with Snowy Hydro Limited since 2012, delivering projects for the original Snowy Scheme and Snowy 2.0. Together with Snowy Hydro, FGJV, and other partners, we've contributed to this nation-shaping initiative, which continues to play a vital role in Australia's energy future. Last year, we were honoured to have assisted in repatriating a historic piece of the original Snowy Scheme. The 1951 Scammell 4 x 4 Mountaineer tip truck pictured below was used on the original scheme and had been sitting idle in a paddock for over twenty years. Our team assisted the Snowy Scheme Museum to recover the truck and get it home to Adaminaby. As we celebrate 75 years of this iconic project, we acknowledge its profound impact on Australia and the generations it has inspired and pay tribute to all who have been part of its history.

Leed has been entrusted with delivering vital slope stabilisation projects across various sites in regional Australia. We ensure the utmost safety and quality standards are adhered to in rectifying areas prone to erosion risks. Our typical work involves addressing landslides, rockfalls, and localised and global stability problems. Leed works to provide solutions to the impacts of natural disasters as part of broader construction activities to ensure safe project execution. With extensive experience navigating challenging terrains, environmentally sensitive zones, and live traffic conditions, our team excels in providing tailored solutions for our clients. We are often engaged early in concept design phases, where we can integrate constructability considerations and proactively address site-specific risks and constraints. Recent projects have included a range of stabilisation techniques, such as rock bolting, soil nailing, gabion walls, rock armour, and mass bloc walls. With our in-house fleet equipped with advanced technology and industry-leading safety features, we deliver efficient, high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities.

“Callum and his work crew did an amazing job and were so helpful with what we required. Your generosity is, frankly, quite overwhelming! Our thank you extends not only for the direct assistance provided to Penneshaw Golf Club but also, and probably more so, for the manner in which your team both executed their work and conducted themselves within our community over the past year or so.” Over the last 18 months working at Kangaroo Island, we have well and truly embedded ourselves in the KI community! As well as engaging local suppliers and subcontractors and employing local residents, we have connected with local community groups and sporting organisations. Recently, members of our construction team utilised our plant and equipment already mobilised on the island to undertake some important maintenance work at the Penneshaw Golf Club. A community-run club, we worked with them to trench areas along the fairways to optimise the irrigation of the greens to preserve the state of the course. And just a drop punt away from the golf course is the home of the Dudley United Football and Netball Club, which we have proudly sponsored for the last two seasons and where we assisted in the service locations needed to erect the new light towers. We also worked with American River Sporting Club to expand their car parking area at their home ground, utilising site-won material from our nearby projects. Leed is proud to support and assist the local communities where we work 🏉
