Raising Funds for Ovarian Cancer research ✨ Funds raised from the annual Adelaide Silver Style events have allowed the LLRF to contribute to ongoing research to find an early detection test for Ovarian Cancer, to pledge support for three years to a project developing personalised treatment for women with Ovarian Cancer, help fund complementary therapy at Mary Potter Hospice, help fund dedicated Ovarian Cancer nurses and spread the word to the community about the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. The Adelaide Silver Style is the major source of the funds raised to support these research projects. At this year’s event the LLRF hopes to raise funds to continue to expand that support by getting behind a new research project to be launched at Flinders in 2025 in addition to current projects. With the funds raised from this year’s Adelaide Silver Style the LLRF will be supporting the early detection of ovarian cancer research program at Flinders. Help fight Ovarian Cancer 🫶 One of the key projects supported by money raised from Adelaide Silver Style is investigating research into an early detection test. This ongoing research, by Professor Martin Oehler and Professor Peter Hoffman, represents 10 years of work undertaken across the University of Adelaide and Uni SA. An early detection test that could detect the disease at Stage 1 would be an absolute game changer and see survival rates for the disease soar. If Ovarian Cancer is diagnosed at stage 1 then the 5 year survival rate is 93%. If diagnosed at stage 4 then the 5 year survival rate drops to 31%. Currently the majority of women are diagnosed at stage 3 or 4 hence the very low survival rates from this disease. Over all the Adelaide Silver Style has raised in excess of $390,000 for research into Ovarian Cancer and support services for women with Ovarian Cancer.
