Making Waves Foundation Launches Rainbow Dinghy Raffle to Support Youth Boat Building Program We're excited to announce our Rainbow Dinghy Raffle, a unique initiative to support and expand our Wright of Passage program. This innovative program empowers young experiencing disadvantage through wooden boat building within a supportive social environment.  Link Here: https://lnkd.in/gNtqnQDQ Participants develop valuable life skills and trade skills in preparation for workplace training and employment, opening doors to bright futures in the maritime industry and beyond. Program Highlights: • Currently operating in Sydney and Geelong • Expanding to Newcastle and Brisbane in 2025 • Aiming for national reach including Hobart, Melbourne, and other locations Raffle Grand Prize: • Brand-new Rainbow Dinghy inclusive of all rigging, sails, and launching trolley (value $16 000). • Rainbow Dinghy Sailing Association Inc. membership (valued at $50). • Optional transport subsidy up to $1,800 (kindly provided by the Rainbow Dinghy Sailing Association). NEWCASTLE 😁 Our purple containers were delivered to our site this week. It is a very exciting development and a first step in setting up our Wright of Passage site. Student trial days are scheduled for early December and we are taking applications from interested students. We officially launch our program early in Term 1, 2025 empowering youth experiencing disadvantage to acquire valuable trade and work ready skills, paving the way for their future success. We thank the Ian & Shirley Norman Foundation for their generous support in providing funding for our essential resources that includes our containers, tools and a dedicated workspace at their headquarters. We can’t wait to officially launch our program and welcome our first intake of students. The Making Waves Staff and Board met face-to-face for an inaugural 2-day workshop that reviewed everything from strategy to programs to organisational culture. It was great to get everyone in the same room and talk about how to streamline our operating procedures and ensure we continue to deliver the best sailing opportunities for people living with disability or experiencing disadvantage. The next steps will be to consolidate the ideas that came out of the group sessions and develop advisory groups that will consist of staff, board members and volunteers alike. As an organisation that prioritizes its volunteers as much as our participants, we feel this is a crucial step to developing a positive and collaborative culture as we head into 2025.
