Momentum Energy is owned by Hydro Tasmania, Australia’s largest generator of renewable energy.

About us

Hi. We’re Momentum Energy. You might’ve heard of us, but we know energy can be a little dry, so we don’t blame you if you haven’t. You’ve probably got your mind on other, more interesting things (it’s okay, you can say it). We’re an Australian energy company with a mission to make energy more human. Because it’s something we all use, so we should all understand it too. All that starts with our people. People who have big (and small, come to think of it) ideas about how we can do energy better. We’re also owned by Hydro Tasmania. They’re the country’s biggest renewable energy generator. So when we say we’re for renewables (and that we have cool parents), we really mean it.

  • It’s enough to send chills down the spine of anyone in business. Yep, Christmas -and the thought of all the things you have to do before that big day arrives. Then on top of everything else, your energy contract comes up for renewal. It can make you wish you had your own team of elves or even contemplate moving to the North Pole.     We can’t offer you any elves, but we can lend a hand to get your energy sorted. If you’ve got an offer, or you’re looking for a different solution, we can help tick those off your Christmas list.     With some basic information from you, we can turn an offer around in two shakes of a reindeer’s tail (or within two business days or less if you contact us before 23 December). So email tenders@momentum.com.au or call 03 8612 6450 and we’ll start working some Christmas miracles for you.

Managing Director, Momentum Energy (GAICD) | Executive and Non Executive Director | Diversity and Inclusion Advocate | Customer Experience, Digital Transformation, Customer Strategy

At Momentum Energy we experience and appreciate the benefits of gender balance across our organisation and within our executive leadership team. I spent the day planning with my team today, and am so grateful for the productive challenge and constructive debate we are able to have as a group - I certainly don't take this for granted and work hard to foster a safe and courageous culture. Nonetheless, we still have work to do on progressing our people through their careers at an equal rate, having gender balance at all levels, and continuing to champion diversity, inclusion and equity across our industry more broadly. That's why it's so valuable to see the progress outlined in the 2024 Impact Report from Champions of Change Coalition that was released yesterday. It highlights long-term progress towards inclusive gender equality in workplaces—and the challenges still ahead. I’m really proud of the tangible work we have done at Momentum Energy to advance gender balance. Initiatives like our gender-neutral parental leave, Expect Respect program, flexible working and mentor walks are just some of the deliberate interventions we are taking, but the report provides another nudge and motivation to continue to prioritise and focus on these initiatives and more. • Join us as we debunk some renewable misinformation with our #MythBustingMonday series with energy expert and Hydro Tasmania Acting CEO Erin van Maanen. 🙋 Today’s myth is: ‘transitioning to renewables will make our energy bills more expensive’. Erin says: No. The CSIRO has shown that renewables backed by storage is the lower cost option to meet our future electricity needs – cheaper than building new coal or nuclear power stations – that means it will also support the lowest possible energy costs. Cheers Erin! Smashed it. Get all the details on this mythbuster and plenty more on the renewable transition in the full story from our friends at The Design Files. https://buff.ly/3CMEOcL

  • Excuse me but were you aware that today is International Fairy Bread Day?! The day we spread joy and 100s & 1000s of sugar-highs around the world. But who was the genius that first thought to spread butter on white bread and cover it with sprinkles – the masterful creator of Australia’s most iconic childhood treat? It was a Tasmanian who popularised the idea back in the 1920s. Like so many great ideas, fairy bread’s home-sweet-home is also 100% Tasmanian. Curious what other cool ideas came from across Bass Strait? Discover more Tassie Genius here https://buff.ly/3XxwMgb

Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence; a global campaign, launched in 1991 by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute. This campaign calls for the prevention and eradication of violence against women and girls. Hydro Tasmania, Entura and Momentum Energy are part of the Champions of Change Coalition; a collective who has been at the forefront of workplace action on domestic, family and sexual violence across Australia.  Momentum Energy is aware of customers with issues of family violence. We provide support while always carefully protecting their personal information. We also provide references to additional support like counselling, emergency accommodation and legal support.    The Keeping Momentum Team assist our most vulnerable customers. Their role can range from listening to a customer’s personal circumstances to organising welfare checks when we’re concerned for a customer’s wellbeing. The team has access to a psychologist to help them cope with the complexities of their role. Care for both our customers and our team are extremely important to us. To help combat and prevent this violence, we want to empower our own employees to feel safe and supported to seek help.  Our Family and Domestic Violence Support Package offers any employee experiencing family or domestic violence access to up to 20 days' paid Family Violence leave, emergency financial assistance in the form of a one-off payment of $1,000, and a salary advance of up to $10,000. In addition, our People team can assist affected employees to develop a Workplace Support Plan and provide referrals to support services.  Our People team and Workplace Support Officers receive training in Family and Domestic Violence risk assessment, referral pathways and privacy issues, and are supported with access to our Manager Assist EAP to support their own wellbeing.  With continued work, and the efforts of many, we can put an end to gendered violence.     SAFE. EVERYWHERE. ALWAYS.
