🌐 Automation, AI, and Accountability in Action 🤖 A big thank you to Paul Eggleton, Product and Business Development Director from NEC Software Solutions, for delivering an insightful presentation at the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) event on "Automation, AI, and Accountability: An AI roadmap for Policing". He shared how NEC is safely innovating using AI as an assistive, not decision-making, technology. He explained the benefits, use cases, and frameworks for responsible AI adoption in policing, emphasising the importance of principles such as governance and a human rights-first approach. 🔑 Key highlights included: • AI’s transformative potential: From document redaction and call triage to crime solvability and retrospective video analysis, AI is already making a profound impact across various fields. • Assistive, not decision-making: Paul emphasised the value of AI as a tool to support human expertise, not replace it. • Alignment with national strategies: To make meaningful progress, local innovations must align with broader, strategic goals. • Responsible AI frameworks: It’s about harnessing the good while managing risks, a balanced approach is key. Paul’s words resonate deeply: “Don’t risk losing the potential good in trying to stop the bad.” His insights serve as a reminder that accountability and innovation can go hand in hand and captures the essence of responsible AI development. Excited to see how these principles shape our future endeavours in automation and AI! 🚀 #Automation #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #ResponsibleAI #ANZPAA

Ayala Domani highlights a crucial balance: advancing facial recognition and AI while safeguarding privacy. NEC’s governance-first approach sets a standard for responsible tech in policing—protecting both communities and civil liberties. #PolicingReimagined #ResponsibleTech
Led by Police Commissioners from Australia and New Zealand, the ANZPAA Police Conference 2024 centered on the theme "Policing Reimagined". We had the opportunity to join some of the sessions and engage with leaders and experts during the event in Melbourne. A highlight topic at the conference (and outside of it..) was the use of Facial Recognition Technology to protect the community. Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Townsend from the Metropolitan Police shared their approach and ongoing work with UK regulators to allow the safe use of Facial Recognition Technology to catch criminals. His data clearly demonstrates that this technology is a game changer in policing and can be implemented while adhering to privacy laws. Paul Eggleton from NEC Software Solutions shared how NEC is safely innovating using AI as an assistive, not decision-making, technology. He explained the benefits, use cases, and frameworks for responsible AI adoption in policing, emphasizing the importance of principles such as governance and a human rights-first approach. A key takeaway is that Facial Recognition and AI are game-changing technologies that, if implemented correctly, can help protect people. It’s crucial that police, regulators, and technology providers work together to ensure the right governance and processes are in place to protect people's privacy, so this technology can be put into action to protect lives.
