Our team were back in the beautiful Northern Territory last week, further collaborating with Australian Regional and Remote Community Services Ltd to create a range of dementia-specific therapy experiences tailored to communities in the Desert Regions (after previously working with Saltwater mobs). Throughout our journey, we were guided by elders to locations of cultural significance, including sites for men's and women's business. As a sign of acceptance, one of the elders bestowed upon us cultural names and requested we address them as Auntie and Uncle. Our therapy library, designed for First Nations residents living with dementia, is truly one of a kind.

Over the past two days, around 100 inspiring leaders from Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT gathered in Sydney for our annual conference, united by our shared purpose to transform lives and create meaningful change in the care sector. This year’s theme, Better Care, Built Together, fuelled powerful reflections on our incredible achievements over the last year and ignited bold ideas for the future. We’ve made great strides in improving care quality, workforce development, and sustainability, while continuing to invest in cutting-edge technologies, professional growth, and our transformative Living Care Action Plan. Together, we’re shaping a future where care is not only better but more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful. Our time together also gave us the chance to celebrate the dedication, passion, and hard work of the teams and individuals who make it all possible - empowering our residents and clients to live life to the full. We were honoured to hear from thought leaders like Tom Symondson, CEO of Aged & Community Care Providers Association, Tanya Buchanan, PhD GAICD, CEO of Dementia Australia, Toni Arndell , MBA, National Engagement Manager of ELDAC aged care, and Dr Virginia Mapedzahama, PhD from the Diversity Council Australia Ltd, who shared invaluable insights into the evolving aged care sector. A heartfelt thank you to our partners, exhibitors and everyone involved for the positive impact you make every day, enabling our staff, residents, and clients to live their best life! What if you could revisit your happiest memories - without ever leaving your chair? 💡 Well, SwanCare Kingia resident Mike did just that. The NeuronsVR device provides specialised therapy for our residential aged care residents, allowing users to transport themselves to just about anywhere in the world using their advanced 3D technology. With help from our dedicated Social Engagement Team, residents can go back to meaningful places from various times in their life that hold memories of peace and joy. For Mike, it was being back out on a paddock with horses. 🌾 While it’s an engaging exercise that provides lots of fun to our residents in care, studies show it does more than just put a smile on one’s face, improving everything from cognitive function to physical fitness. It’s important to note that none of this would be possible without the generous sponsors, players and donors who supported our SwanCare Charty Golf Day for 2024. Your generous contributions have helped us enrich the lives of our residents, and for that, we cannot thank you enough. 🤍 We look forward to sharing more VR updates soon! #VirtualReality #VRtherapy #VRinAgedCare
