Updates

  • We are tremendously proud to be named the Official Charity of the Bathurst 12 Hour, Australia’s premier international endurance race.   If you’re heading to the 2025 event, held Jan 31 – Feb 2, we’ll be there raising funds around the circuit to help fund research and support services for Australian men and families impacted by prostate cancer.   The partnership is a three-year agreement that will drive money-can’t-buy awareness, and help remind Australian men to get checked for prostate cancer.   Our aim is to put Australia in pole position to lift prostate cancer survival and continue our drive towards zero deaths from the disease in the next ten years. Our thanks to Craig and Lara Lowndes, Scott Taylor, Shane Rudzis, Richard Craill, Angela Bawden, Britt K. and the combined teams across Supercars, Meguiar’s and Scott Taylor Motorsport for making this real!   More details > https://lnkd.in/gaBgCRch

  • Today, we’re standing up to call for earlier, faster and fairer access to new medicines for Australian men and families impacted by cancer. The fact is that people in all corners of our great country often have to wait more than 442 days for reimbursed access to registered medicines required to treat their disease. As a member of the Bridging Funding Coalition, we unreservedly endorse the Coalition’s National Consensus Statement to bridge the funding gap between TGA registration and listing on the PBS. Today’s action calls on the Federal Government to establish an Expert Implementation Group to help us deliver accessible and affordable health care for all. • Andrei can still remember sitting in his urologist’s office, trying not to panic. 😨 He was only 45. “The urologist sat me down and told me matter-of-factly: “It can only be one thing at this stage: you have prostate cancer,” he says. 😢 “A biopsy and further tests showed that I had aggressive, locally advanced prostate cancer. 💔 “Having to tell your girls you’ve got cancer is a moment you’ll never forget. 🥺 “Georgia, our youngest, started running around the room. Emma, our oldest, just bit her bottom lip and burst into tears. 😭 “Suddenly, to her, I wasn’t invincible. 👎 “My life was abruptly taken over by painful treatments. 🥺 “I needed surgery and two years of androgen deprivation injections. 😢 “The surgery didn’t get rid of it all, so I had to have 39 sessions of radiation that damaged my bladder, which made me so sick and too exhausted to work. 🤕 “After nine months of clear PSA tests, I started to think that I might be cancer-free. 👍 “In 2020, I received another punch to the guts – my PSA levels were detectable again. 😫 “I’ll still need more high-dose radiation to kill the cancer that has surfaced in my pelvis. 👎 “Still, I’m trying to stay hopeful, and I’ve told my girls I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. 💪 “We know that the faster you get treated, the better the outcomes are with this disease, which is why I’m supporting PCFA Giving Day today. 💙 “Investing in research is also investing in reducing that agonising wait and uncertainty for men about finding out where the cancer is and what we need to do to treat it.  👍 “Everything we can do to move ourselves towards better control and ultimately a cure for prostate cancer is a wonderful thing. 💯 “We’re going to beat this thing before it beats me.” 🙌 We couldn’t agree more, Andrei. Research saves lives. Give today for a stronger tomorrow: www.pcfagivingday.org.au. All donations doubled until midnight.

  • Meet Rob Smith 👊   He was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer at just 54 and told he only had 12-18 months to live. 😯   He remembers sitting in his office on a Friday afternoon, six years ago, and getting the call to say he needed to immediately see his doctor.   "He said mate you've got two options, you either have a radical prostatectomy or, there's no way to sugarcoat it, you're going to die. 😟   "My world fell apart. I had two young teenage boys at the time and they were on my mind the whole time - how do I tell them that their father is potentially dying?" 💔   “But thanks to surgery and advances in research, I’m still here today. 🙏   "We need more men to get off their ass and get tested.   “It’s as simple as a blood test to begin with. But men are too scared to go to the doctor and have this phobia of talking about down below.   “We’ve got to change that. 💯   “I couldn’t have gotten through my diagnosis without PCFA’s support either – their nurses are lifesavers.” 💙   Rob is a Tyrepower General Manager and PCFA Ambassador.   “Prior to being diagnosed, I spent very little of my time talking to my team and company about men’s health. The day I got my diagnosis, that all changed for me, and it has to change for all of us if we want to drive survival forward.”   Today is also International Men’s Day – so a huge cheers to Rob for showing us how it’s done! 😍   You can support men like Rob by donating this Giving Day. • Meet Peter, a logistics manager who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August at just 54 years old. He had no symptoms, no warning. 😟 “I was shocked. Cancer is something only other people get. You always think to yourself: I’m not going to get cancer,” he says. 😲 Now on the road to recovery, Peter, with the support of his wife Lucy, is rallying Australians to help raise funds for research to change the future of prostate cancer. 👍 “Our son is only 18 - we hope he doesn’t get it, but there’s a good chance he might.  😥   “If I can do anything to prevent that from happening, I will.” 😍 Peter is sharing his story in the lead up to PCFA’s annual Giving Day. 💙 All donations doubled - donate now to join the fight: www.pcfagivingday.org.au #givingday #donate #giveback #prostatecancer #support

  • Every day, 72 Australian men hear the words no one wants to hear: you have prostate cancer.     Peter heard these very words this year and, in August, underwent a robotic prostatectomy. Now on the road to recovery, Peter is leading the charge for Giving Day on Thursday, November 21.    He knows that every dollar invested in research today means a brighter future for every Australian family. • PCFA’s Life Force Program is helping to raise much-needed awareness of prostate cancer in workplaces right across the country. 👏 Like at Fairfield City Council, who recently invited our volunteers on-site to present to their staff in October. 💙 Having the opportunity to connect with employees and share more about prostate cancer rates, risks, and testing options makes a significant difference in our fight against prostate cancer. Shoutout to The Hon. Jim Lloyd and Rod Hale for delivering these important presentations. To learn more about our Life Force Program and request a visit presentation for your workplace, head to https://lnkd.in/gbZhyMtq

  • On Sunday, 20 legends took the biggest plunge of their lives by abseiling 130-metres down the Central Park Tower in Perth to raise awareness about prostate cancer.    The group included John Williams and his INPEX Australia workmates, they formed two teams—the INPEX Sliders and INPEX Window Walkers—and descended 33 floors to raise vital funds for PCFA.    John and his fellow workmate Chris Wilson are both prostate cancer survivors.    “It was a risky situation being on top of a 33-storey building, but it’s even more dangerous not to be aware of your prostate health.   “1 in 5 men are at risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer by the time they turn 85 years old. Early detection is vital and could be lifesaving.    “I want to encourage all men to be aware of their risk of prostate cancer, to look out for symptoms, and to talk to their doctor about recommendations for their situation,” John said.     All teams raised over $40,000 for PCFA! 👍💙   Thank you, John and Chris, and everyone involved! We hope this inspires others to take the plunge for prostate cancer.  #prostatecancer #prostatecancerawareness #prostatecancerawarenessmonth #prostatecancerresearch #prostatecancersurvivor #prostatecancerfoundation #prostatecancerawarness #endprostatecancer #fightprostatecancer #prostatecancerscreening
