Tarun Nagesh, QAGOMA’s Curatorial Manager of Asian and Pacific Art, was recently interviewed by Supporting Partner Brisbane Airport Corporation in the lead up to the Asia Pacific Triennial. Providing an overview of the exhibition, Tarun discussed must-see projects such as Haus Yuriyal’s working garden at QAG and Brett Graham’s soaring nine-metre totem in GOMA’s foyer. As the Gallery’s flagship exhibition, the Triennial is famous for celebrating the region’s social and cultural diversity. QAGOMA is proud to announce that Georgia Hoskinson and Sandy Harvey have both been selected to participate in the competitive Dhiraamalang: Wesfarmers First Nations Arts Leadership Program, hosted at the National Gallery of Australia.   Georgia Hoskinson, Badtjala woman, artist and QAGOMA’s Regional Liaison Officer, works alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and communities across Queensland to deliver the Gallery’s annual Design Tracks and Art as Exchange programs. https://lnkd.in/gZvNWH-b   Sandy Harvey, Kalkadoon woman, artist and QAGOMA’s Project Officer, Public Programs facilitates the Gallery’s free monthly Art & This Place: First Nations Tours. https://lnkd.in/gN3FYzaU    In 2024, the Dhiraamalang: Wesfarmers First Nations Arts Leadership Program will focus on Community leadership and learning on Country with Elders. Asia Pacific Triennial Cinema starts tomorrow! Five programs highlighting exciting new directions in cinema from across Asia and the Pacific will screen at GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque from 1 November 2024 to 11 May 2025. Curated surveys of work by directors Tsai Ming-liang (Taiwan), Kamila Andini (Indonesia) and Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Japan) will be featured alongside two thematic film programs, conversations with filmmakers, and Live Music & Film events. In July 2024, while in Brisbane for the opening of her exhibition ‘Sculpting the Senses’ at GOMA, Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen, with her partner and collaborator Salvador Breed, was invited to visit Minjerribah – North Stradbroke Island. Iris and Salvador’s exchange with Quandamooka artists fostered a rich, first-hand understanding of Australia’s extraordinary First Nations culture. This project has been assisted by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy and Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Australia.
