Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula is driving the expansion and growth of economic in the EP.

About us

Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) is the lead agency for driving economic, business and tourism development in the Eyre Peninsula region. The RDAWEP mission is to facilitate the achievement of sustainable development outcomes and promote the region as a quality destination to live, work, invest and visit. RDAWEP is part of a national network of 52 regional development agencies established by the Australian Government in 2009. RDAWEP was formed from the amalgamation of the Eyre Regional Development Board and Whyalla Economic Development Board. These boards have a proven reputation of driving economic development in their communities over two decades. This experience, along with ongoing collection of local intelligence, provides RDAWEP with substantial capability to facilitate the strategic development of the region into the future. RDAWEP is an incorporated association operating as an independent autonomous body. The Board is comprised of high profile local people representing business, industry, education, Local Government, natural resources and the community, with members selected for their experience and relevant skills. The Board is supported by a staff team with extensive government and private sector experience in economic and community development. RDAWEP is funded through a cooperative arrangement with the Australian Government, South Australian Government, and the region’s 11 Local Government Authorities (LGAs). The LGAs are: The City of Whyalla and City of Port Lincoln; and the District Councils of Ceduna, Cleve, Elliston, Franklin Harbour, Kimba, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay and Wudinna. While the three levels of government provide the core funding for RDAWEP operations, the Board has an enviable record of leveraging funding from a range of government programs and private sector sources to deliver major projects for the benefit of the region.

***New Aircraft*** Yesterday Port Lincoln Airport welcomed the QantasLink’s new Dash 8 Q400 aircraft for the first time in 10 years when the 74-passenger plane landed at 1.50pm. The Port Lincoln Airport was previously the only regional airport in South Australia to be serviced by the Q400, from 2010 to 2015, but has again secured the fleet upgrade for an initial 21 flights a week. The inaugural flight was celebrated with Lower Eyre Council and QantasLink inviting representatives and stakeholders to watch the plane land and experience a water canon welcome courtesy of the local Country Fire Service. Passengers, invited guests and visitors also had a chance to sample the amazing local wines from TEAKLE Wines and Boston Bay Wines as part of the Council’s Pop-Up tasting activation program. Mayor Jo-Anne Quigley said Council valued its relationship with QantasLink and was very pleased to have secured a larger aircraft to service the communities and businesses of Eyre Peninsula. “As owner and operator of the Port Lincoln Airport, Council recognises the vital role the airport and Regular Passenger Transport airlines play for the Eyre Peninsula’s community and economy,” Mayor Quigley said. “We welcome QantasLink’s decision to upgrade its fleet for our airport, and appreciate its partnership with Council.” QantasLink Chief Executive Officer Rachel Yangoyan stated… “QantasLink has been flying to Port Lincoln for 25 years and it was the first regional route we operated in South Australia. We are excited to be bringing our larger 74-seat Q400 aircraft back to the route as part of Qantas’ investment in keeping regional Australia connected. This is great for tourism and locals as it will add the equivalent of more than 20,000 seats between Adelaide and Port Lincoln each year and the larger aircraft offers more seats, a faster flight time and will improve reliability.”

State Leader of the Opposition Vincent Tarzia, Shadow Minister for Mining Stephen Patterson and Member for Flinders Sam Telfer visited Whyalla today, meeting with Mayor Phill Stone to discuss their bipartisan support for the people of Whyalla and how they can lobby relevant stakeholders to help ensure the long-term future of the steelworks. This comes on the back of Federal Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton declaring to Premier Peter Malinauskas that he is “keen to work closely with the South Australian Government to do whatever we can to make sure that we can preserve jobs and that industry in South Australia”. Council will continue to advocate on behalf of the city by working with all sides and levels of government to see the best outcomes for Whyalla and the community.

A recent video filmed & edited for AFL - Australian Football League & South Australian Tourism Commission as promotion of South Australia in the lead up to the 2025 Gather Round. We were lucky enough to spend some time on the Eyre Peninsula with Sydney Swans player Isaac Heeney, experiencing some of South Australia’s best offerings, from beach fishing, swimming with sea lions, and 4WD through sand dunes. This is just 1 of many videos we have filmed with different players experiencing SA. Can’t wait to see these video shared around during the Gather Round promotion this year.
