Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula is driving the expansion and growth of economic in the EP.
About us
Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) is the lead agency for driving economic, business and tourism development in the Eyre Peninsula region. The RDAWEP mission is to facilitate the achievement of sustainable development outcomes and promote the region as a quality destination to live, work, invest and visit. RDAWEP is part of a national network of 52 regional development agencies established by the Australian Government in 2009. RDAWEP was formed from the amalgamation of the Eyre Regional Development Board and Whyalla Economic Development Board. These boards have a proven reputation of driving economic development in their communities over two decades. This experience, along with ongoing collection of local intelligence, provides RDAWEP with substantial capability to facilitate the strategic development of the region into the future. RDAWEP is an incorporated association operating as an independent autonomous body. The Board is comprised of high profile local people representing business, industry, education, Local Government, natural resources and the community, with members selected for their experience and relevant skills. The Board is supported by a staff team with extensive government and private sector experience in economic and community development. RDAWEP is funded through a cooperative arrangement with the Australian Government, South Australian Government, and the region’s 11 Local Government Authorities (LGAs). The LGAs are: The City of Whyalla and City of Port Lincoln; and the District Councils of Ceduna, Cleve, Elliston, Franklin Harbour, Kimba, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay and Wudinna. While the three levels of government provide the core funding for RDAWEP operations, the Board has an enviable record of leveraging funding from a range of government programs and private sector sources to deliver major projects for the benefit of the region.

Great initiative by the Whyalla City Council who are always supportive of local businesses. A must attend information session for any Whyalla business able to work on the identified projects.
Is your business impacted by the current economic downturn and looking for new opportunities? We’re looking to fast-track several key projects to provide much-needed work while delivering upgrades for the community. The program of work will focus on investing more than $1 million across two of the city’s key public areas in Civic Park and the foreshore, including street furniture, art and culture installations, landscaping and playground upgrades. This work will not impact ratepayers, as already-budgeted work is either being brought forward or postponed to maximise the current impact. While not expected to completely offset the work lost throughout this year, it aims to help businesses realise there are other ongoing opportunities, and that they’re capable of diversifying from their usual work. The ultimate aim is to help them prepare for the raft of new work expected over the next decade as non-manufacturing industries such as hydrogen, desalination, renewables, defence and other associated businesses come online. Interested businesses are encouraged to attend a briefing session from 7.30am Thursday 12 December at The Nest Pod (adjacent the Whyalla Library) to find out more about the opportunities available. RSVP is essential – contact Joanne Blayney on 8640 3444 or joanne.blayney@whyalla.sa.gov.au to reserve your place. Mayor Phill Stone said: “It’s been a tough year for our community – both for residents and businesses directly and indirectly linked to the steelworks. It’s hoped these projects can create some additional work for the businesses impacted, while giving our residents an uplift, particularly families.” Read our full update here: https://whycc.au/4g7Dujn

The state government is releasing five significant projects to the property development sector by the end of the year – including Whyalla’s Kloeden Street reserve – enabling developers to take advantage of a once-in-a-generation pipeline of projects across the state, such as the Hydrogen Jobs Plan. Mayor Phill Stone said this is further proof of the government’s confidence in Whyalla’s future: “This is just one example of council’s consistent, ongoing collaboration with the government behind the scenes resulting in economic benefits for the community, with more of these types of projects still to come.” Read the full announcement here: https://whycc.au/kloeden. The Federal Government is investing $400,000 to help manage and protect our region’s unique Cuttlefish Coast Sanctuary Zone, helping ensure it can better cater for continually growing visitor numbers. The funding will help to develop a conservation management and tourism plan for the site, which sees thousands of Giant Australian Cuttlefish congregate along the four kilometres of shallow rocky reef each year. Led by the South Australian Government, in partnership with Whyalla City Council, this project will ensure the site is prepared for increased visitation and minimise impacts on the surrounding region. This is becoming increasingly important as numbers grow year-on-year, including a 25% increase from last year, with 2024 numbers edging close to 15,000 visitors.
