Flashback to 2020, when we completed the wayfinding system for Raphael Place at One Farrer! Our wayfinding system guides patrons to the amenities, using elegant three dimensional pictogram / arrow combinations, nestled into and wrapped around the architecture. To further enrich the site’s narrative we designed a heritage plaque, which recounts the sites’ storied past. Crafted from bronze, the plaque incorporates historical imagery and copy, seamlessly integrated into the architecture. Our designs incorporated materiality and typography that honours site heritage, carefully aligned with the sandstone wall tiles or anchored to architectural features. Chadstone’s new entertainment and dining precinct, The Social Quarter, is the first project in Australia to achieve a Green Star Designed assessment with the new Green Star Buildings tool, whilst also being on track to receive a 5 Star Green Star Certified - Buildings rating. Designed by Buchan and Decibel, The Social Quarter incorporates a sculptural art facade, iconic stair entrance and expansive views across Melbourne. The additional 10,000 sqm footprint introduces new dining and entertainment experiences, to supplement the existing Legoland Discovery Centre, Hoyts and Mezzanine Dining precinct. Our design features custom typography and pictograms by Studio Round that align with the precinct’s distinctive brand identity. The wayfinding concept responds to the bright and open environment, incorporating layered neon illumination, extruded shapes and glowing sign forms, while leveraging the brand’s playful, youthful and energetic character within the space. Tenant signage is designed to stand out against the environment and add a splash of colour, helping visitors to find tenancies located at the rear of the precinct. Located in the heart of Sydney, The Galeries is a premium lifestyle destination offering fashion, art and dining experiences. During a recent refurbishment of the basement food court, Vicinity Centres engaged us to design a distinctive, contemporary and energetic wayfinding system, specific to this lower-ground food offering. Bold, illuminated sculptural signage provides a stark contrast against the architecture, drawing attention from street level and guiding visitors into the precinct. On the basement floor, the deconstructed shapes and typography are integrated with murals designed by Sydney artist Alex Lehours. Designed by Fender Katsalidis and built by Maben, a newly erected commercial tower proudly overlooks Ringwood Train Station and Eastland Town Square. Boasting high quality materiality and an interior fit out by Peck Von Hartel, the building’s three distinctive layers harmonise through a refined palette of warm elements, featuring bronze cladding, glass and concrete. Drawing inspiration from the building’s contours, our innovative wayfinding concept incorporates layered forms and elements, with a bold and succinct visual language that is embedded into the built form. The typographic design incorporates curved, soft accents and raw materiality with contemporary characters, echoing the elegant facade. Additionally, our environmental graphics for the end-of-trip facilities applies vibrant pops of colour, drawing inspiration from the user journey and the concept of ‘transitioning from point A to B’. These murals establish a direct link to road markings, the building facade and the nearby train station, infusing the space with dynamic energy that resonates with its users. The refurbishment of 52 Goulburn Street by Brookfield Properties creates an uplifted arrival experience and facilities, delivering an exceptional professional space in the heart of Sydney. Strategic Spaces worked closely with the architectural and client teams to deliver a dynamic wayfinding system that enhances the users’ experience of place. On entrance levels, careful attention to finishes and material characteristics allowed us to create refined wayfinding, integrated with the interior design and seamlessly connecting to new building thoroughfares. For the end of trip facilities we developed a bold, monochromatic linework graphic suitable to the robust basement environment, while providing intuitive wayfinding cues for tenants. The resultant wayfinding system includes both playful, modern graphics and a sophisticated commercial visual language, coalesced into a cohesive whole to deliver on the promise of a world-class office environment. We were delighted to partner with QIC Real Estate as wayfinding consultants on their highly anticipated new dining precinct at Canberra Centre, which boasts Tiger Lane; a unique and immersive pan-Asian dining destination. Within the arcade, the Technē designed interior pays homage to the city’s celebrated outdoors and immerses you in abundant greenery. To complement this “outside-in” approach, our concept featured natural materials and colours, with soft edges and rounded forms that took cues from the unique, interconnecting architecture. Our contemporary interpretation of a street sign provided a distinct and adaptive element, which extends throughout the precinct and into the newly pedestrianised and activated Scotts Crossing, enhancing the user experience and promoting a vital connection with the rest of the site. With further interventions currently being delivered across the site, we are excited to see the user experience at Canberra Centre continue to evolve in the months to come. Nestled in the new urban community of Caulfield Village in Melbourne’s inner southeast, a retail hub was unveiled by 151 Property in 2023, offering a diverse array of lifestyle amenities, essential services and dining experiences catering to both residents and visitors. Designed to enhance navigation and the user experience, the car park’s wayfinding system features expansive murals and environmental graphics. These artworks showcase a playful and youthful design language, characterised by flowing organic forms, dynamic colours and bold typography.
