2024, another big year! We’ve ‘wrapped up’ our highlights from the year to demonstrate the incredible contribution international students make to our state, and the great impression South Australia makes on international students. These facts and figures wouldn’t be possible without support from our members, employers and industry, and most of all, our international students who call Adelaide home.

Earlier this December, we had the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with education agents and institutions in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh! Our Agent Showcasing Sessions in these cities provided us the opportunity to share how Adelaide can help bring students closer to success in study, work and life! Participants also had the opportunity to learn more about South Australia’s key priority sectors and the job opportunities they present for international students. Thank you to Andrew Wall of Rada Vietnam who led a discovery session where agents were able to taste some of South Australia’s famous wine. South Australia produces 80% of Australia’s premium wine and leads the sector with world-leading research and development. Thank you to the South Australian institutions who joined this trip. Flinders University, University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Eynesbury College and South Australian Institute of Business & Technology (represented by Navitas), Le Cordon Bleu Australia, The University of Adelaide College, Torrens University Australia, ICHM, Kaplan Business School, Imperial Engineering Education, IH Sydney Training Services and University of the Sunshine Coast

The 34th ISANA Inc International Education Association conference wrapped up last week, and what an incredible couple of days it was! Hosted at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the conference brought together professionals dedicated to enhancing the international student experience. We were proud to play a part in this important event. Our Chief Executive, Jane Johnston, participated in an insightful panel discussion on government policy changes and the future direction of international education. Laurice Lima, our Engagement and Partnerships Manager, shared the success of our Regional Careers Tours, which creates valuable career opportunities for international students in regional South Australia. Zhahara Y., our Employment Projects Coordinator, highlighted StudyAdelaide’s Job Shop, a high-impact initiative supporting new international students in their employment journey, which recently received the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) Innovation Award at the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) in Melbourne. We’d like to thank Alice Bernardo, Patricia Nicole Garduque, and Subarna Kaji Shrestha (KJ), three of our 2024 Student Ambassadors, who reflected honestly on their student journeys and shared valuable insights and ideas. We were also delighted to sponsor the Conference Dinner, offering delegates a chance to connect, reflect on the inspiring sessions, and experience Adelaide’s renowned hospitality. Thank you to the organisers and everyone who attended for making this year’s conference such a success.

Since 1933, the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant has been a cherished tradition, drawing over 320,000 people to the streets of Adelaide to welcome the arrival of Father Christmas. This year, we were delighted to offer our international students the opportunity to participate in this iconic event by joining the “Counting Down to Christmas” float, made possible by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency. This initiative provided our students with a truly memorable experience, allowing them to immerse themselves in Adelaide’s vibrant lifestyle and feel the warmth of our welcoming community.

In today’s market, while organisations face challenges in sourcing IT talent, many international graduates across IT disciplines struggle to secure employment in their fields of study. With more than 6,000 IT students in South Australia and a clear need to bridge this gap, we hosted the first IT networking event last week for students and graduates in the Careers in IT program, in partnership with Community Corporate . It was a great opportunity for over 90 students to hear advice from industry professionals and expand their local network. We would like to thank Rob Absalom for running the IT-focused workshop and the organisations ReturnToWorkSA, Aerometrex, Robert Walters, Comunet, Randstad Digital and Concept Data for the support. A special thanks too to the guests Florent Campagne, Natalie Deverson, Peter Nguyen MIEAust, Vibin Vijayan, Rebecca Lawton, Alexei Fey, Jeremy Zozuk, Daniel Philip and Lex A for generously sharing their experiences with the students. If you're an organisation looking for IT staff, for short term, project based or full-time roles, or would like to know more, visit the Careers in IT page | https://lnkd.in/gF_8E8sT

Job Shop for the win! StudyAdelaide’s Job Shop, which matches employers with international students who are looking for part-time work, has won a major national accolade. 🏆 We were thrilled to accept the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA)'s Innovation Award at the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) in Melbourne. One of the first challenges many international students face is entering the Australian job market. And many employers are struggling to find casual and part-time workers in a diverse range of industries. That’s where StudyAdelaide’s Job Shop comes in. Up to 30 Adelaide businesses are promoting job and volunteer opportunities via Job Shop at any one time. Setting it apart from other programs, students can apply for jobs through Job Shop even before they leave their home countries to come to live in Adelaide. Then, when international students arrive in Adelaide, Job Shop workshops help them navigate the job market, understand the unique requirements of Australian business culture, and minimise the risk of exploitation. Jodie McDonald accepted the award on behalf of our wide network of members and stakeholders who have helped make Job Shop grow to be such an outstanding success, especially our first Job Shop partners National Wine Centre of Australia, Adelaide Venue Management, Adelaide Oval, SkyCity Adelaide, Accor, IBIS hotel, Pullman Hotels & Resorts, Drakes Supermarkets, ahs hospitality, and McDonald's.
