This year we received outstanding images of research in action for the DDI Research Image Contest 2024! From disease biology to drug design, to pre-clinical studies, entries explored diverse aspects of drug discovery. 📸 A big congratulations to our Winner and Runner-Up: 🥇 Dr William Ryder for “Actin’ Crazy” (left): An image which captures a dramatic reorganisation of the cellular actin cytoskeleton, visualised through immunostaining, in lung epithelial adenocarcinoma cells. 🥈Dr Nick Shields for “The Dark Side of the (Spheroid) Moon” (right): An image of a human breast cancer spheroid (Hs578T cells) visualised while live (top left; merged BOBO-3 iodide (orange), Calcein AM (green), and Hoechst 33342 (blue)) and again after subsequent fixation, F-actin staining, and optical clearing (bottom right; merged phalloidin (red) & Hoechst (blue)). 👥 The People’s Choice Award is yet to be decided!
