  • Here's what I'm reading during this break and the key takeaways –  ⭐️ Brene Brown – Dare to Lead Vulnerability is Courage - Leadership requires vulnerability by showing up authentically, embracing uncertainty and having tough conversations with empathy and clarity. Setting and communicating boundaries build trust - Trust is earned in small moments and depends on clear, communicated boundaries. Leaders must be reliable, accountable and willing to lean into hard feedback. Rumble with Tough Conversations - Effective leaders "rumble" with issues rather than avoiding them. A rumble involves candid, respectful dialogue focused on solutions, not blame. ⭐️ Working Genius – Patrick Lencioni Discover Your Genius - Everyone has two "Geniuses" (areas of natural energy and joy), two "Competencies" (skills you can do well but don't energise you) and two "Frustrations" (tasks that drain you). Knowing your Working Genius types allows you to focus on your strengths and collaborate effectively. Embrace Team Diversity - Successful teams are made up of complementary geniuses. When team members understand and leverage each other’s strengths, collaboration improves and frustration decreases. Align Roles with Strengths - Misalignment between work responsibilities and natural geniuses can lead to burnout and disengagement. Leaders must assign tasks based on individuals’ geniuses to increase productivity and satisfaction. Improve Communication and Collaboration - Understanding each team member's genius fosters empathy and reduces conflict. It provides a common language to discuss work preferences and challenges. Maximise Team Effectiveness - By ensuring all six Geniuses are present and valued on a team, projects flow more smoothly from ideation to execution, avoiding gaps or inefficiencies. • My key takeaways for 2024  ➡️ The importance of closure. Whether that is closing out on a conversation, a project, task or relationship, closure is essential for maintaining momentum and clarity. It allows you to move forward with focus and confidence. By closing things off properly, you create space for new opportunities and ensure that lessons are learned and reflected upon.   ➡️ The importance of checking assumptions. Sometimes we have an idea of how someone feels or what is going on for someone but we don’t actually know, we are making an estimated guess based on our biases and assumptions. Checking our assumptions with others helps us prevent misunderstandings and ensures that decisions are based on accurate information. It fosters open communication, promotes collaboration and strengthens trust within teams. You can do this by asking: "Hey, I’ve been thinking about [situation/topic] and I want to make sure I’m on the right track. Could you help me by confirming if my assumption is accurate or if you see it differently? ➡️ Being brave and also being scared go hand in hand. Often when I feel scared, nervous or are experiencing imposter syndrome I am taking a step out of my comfort zone whether that is taking a new leadership approach, leaning into to an uncomfortable conversation, being vulnerable. These behaviours are also very courageous. Highlighting that Fear and Courage are often linked and fear is NOT a weakness, it is being brave. • The idea that good leaders never take their foot off the pedal? It’s outdated and honestly, it’s exhausting. Constantly being “on” isn’t a sign of strength—it’s a fast track to burnout. Leadership isn’t about doing everything, all the time. It’s about knowing when to step back, reflect and recharge so you can show up mindfully and be fully present when it matters most. What happens when you give yourself space to pause? ✔️ You make clearer, more thoughtful decisions. ✔️ You model healthy boundaries for your team. ✔️ You create room for fresh ideas and creative thinking. Leadership isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon and no one can run their best race if they don't take time out for recovery. So, let’s leave this mindset behind. Being “on” all the time doesn’t make you a more effective leader, it makes you a tired one. How are you practicing stepping back and recharging as we move into 2025? . #adelaidebusiness #adelaidebusinesswomen #adelaideteambuilding #adelaidesmallbusiness #businessadelaide #professionaldevelopment #leadershipgrowth

  • If you are lucky enough to have time off over the holiday season, make sure you get some rest this Christmas break! The lead up to Christmas can be hectic with endless functions, finishing off tasks before year end and the dreaded Christmas shopping. This can lead you to feel utterly exhausted before the big day has even arrived. Allocate some time during this period to really unwind. Taking a step back isn’t about being lazy, it's intentionally giving yourself the space to breathe, think and allow your brain and body to slow down. When you take time to rest: ✨You get your energy back. Suddenly, the things that felt overwhelming feel doable. ✨ Your mind clears and you see potential challenges in a different way. ✨ You show up better for your team, more focused, patient and purposeful. ✨ Your brain slows down, allowing for more focused, creative thinking – all the amazing ideas start here. We often need to SLOW DOWN in order to SPEED UP. So, before the year ends, ask yourself… Are you making time to rest? Even a little bit can make a big difference. I will certainly be taking my own advice and unplugging from work to be present with my family. If you email during this period - please expect a response in January. How are you planning to rest during these holidays? . #adelaidebusiness #adelaidebusinesswomen #adelaideteambuilding #adelaidesmallbusiness #businessadelaide #professionaldevelopment #leadershipgrowth

  • Have you noticed anything that feels a little... off with your team? Sometimes the signs that it’s time for a reset aren’t obvious, but they’re there if you know what to look for. Here are a few to keep an eye on: ➡️ Everyone’s running on empty. Low energy? Burnout creeping in? It might be time to slow down and recharge. ➡️ Communication needs work. Misunderstandings, missed details or just a general “we’re not on the same page” vibe? That’s a red flag. ➡️ Focus is all over the place. If your team’s struggling to stay aligned or priorities keep shifting, it’s a sign to pause and regroup. ➡️ No fresh ideas. If things are feeling stagnant (working hard but not getting anywhere) it’s worth asking why. The good news is a reset doesn’t mean flipping everything upside down. Sometimes, it’s as simple as giving people space to rest, reflect and reconnect with what really matters. Could your team use a reset before diving into 2025? It’s often the small shifts that make the biggest difference. Let’s start thinking about what that could look like. . #adelaidebusiness #adelaidebusinesswomen #adelaideteambuilding #adelaidesmallbusiness #businessadelaide #professionaldevelopment #leadershipgrowth

  • As the year draws to a close, it's a great opportunity to reflect on your teams' successes and lessons learnt and ask the question: 'Have you considered what your team needs to grow in 2025?' Beyond meeting KPIs and deadlines, it's important for your team to grow, continuously evolve and overcome obstacles effectively. Now is the time to pause and consider: - What skills does your team need to develop next year? - How will you foster a culture of collaboration, creativity and trust? - What steps will you take to ensure your team feels valued and empowered to succeed? Meaningful growth doesn't happen by chance, it requires intention. When you plan with purpose, you don't just prepare for challenges, you create opportunities for your team to excel. Take some time this week to begin crafting your team's development plan for 2025. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect or set in stone, it just has to start. What's one area of focus for your team's growth in the year ahead? . #adelaidebusiness #adelaidebusinesswomen #adelaideteambuilding #adelaidesmallbusiness #businessadelaide #professionaldevelopment #leadershipgrowth

  • When people make mistakes, how do you initially react? In my experience, many leaders react poorly, filled with frustration and negativity. Most of us already feel pretty low when we make a mistake and adding more fuel to the fire only pushes us further down. Unless we are saving lives, most mistakes have fairly low consequences. I’d rather focus on building them back up so they’re ready to bounce back stronger. Here’s how I approach it when a team member slips up: – Instead of highlighting what went wrong, I look at what they can learn and how they can do it differently in the future. – Mistakes rock our confidence. I make it a priority to remind them of their strengths, so they have perspective of all the things they do right. – Not dwelling on the slip up. We outline steps to avoid it in the future and move forward with a clear, focused mindset. If we are not making mistakes, we are not putting ourselves into the ring, which leads to a stagnant organisation. So let your people know it's ok to make mistakes, genuinely encourage it and provide a safe place for them to fall. What has your experience been when you have made a mistake within the workplace? . #adelaidebusiness #adelaidebusinesswomen #adelaideteambuilding #adelaidesmallbusiness #businessadelaide #professionaldevelopment #leadershipgrowth
