At #RANZCO55th Congress in Adelaide (held 1-4 November 2024), RANZCO was delighted to welcome 200 eye health professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region for our 3rd annual Global Eye Health Workshop. Over two busy days, participants explored oculoplastic and orbital surgery, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of retinal and macular diseases in low-resource settings. The program was included expert presentations, insights from Pacific eye health leaders and valuable opportunities to connect, discuss and share experiences. ➡️ Check out this video to hear participants' reflections on this important event: https://lnkd.in/gQHzRFME #globaleyehealth #globalhealth #eyehealth #retina #maculardisease #oculoplastic #ortibtalsurgery

#Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is the leading cause of preventable blindness in children affecting three out of four babies born at less than 31 weeks gestation or weighing less than 1250g at birth. Effective screening of premature babies is critical to identify babies at risk and capturing them at a level where treatment is effective in preventing #blindness. For the most up to date evidence on ROP, see the Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Screening and Treatment Guidelines launched by RANZCO’s Vison2030 and beyond Paediatric Eye Healthcare Services Working Group (PEHSWG): https://lnkd.in/ed8W79rt #blindenessprevention #vision2030 #vision2030beyond #ROP

More than 1,100 trees are to be planted in South Australia as part of an initiative by The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) to champion sustainability. The trees were bought by people attending the recent RANZCO Congress in Adelaide and donated to The Forktree Project, an organisation aiming to restore a former pastoral property in the state’s Fleurieu Peninsula. #environment #sustainability #ophthalmology

Ahead of #WorldDiabetesDay, we’re proud to reflect on the impactful work this year in the fight against diabetic eye diseases. In June, during Day One of 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE in Mexico City, we launched the Spanish-language version of our Policy Brief on Diabetic Retinopathy with the International Diabetes Federation, expanding our reach to Spanish-speaking communities. Our momentum continued at the Euretina Conference in Barcelona, where IAPB and AbbVie initiated a European Call to Action with policymakers from Spain, Italy, and Slovenia. Shortly after, at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, leaders emphasized the vital link between diabetes management and eye health.
