About us
The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative providing a practical framework for action and a platform for demonstrating commitment and leadership. The initiative calls on businesses to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action to advance societal goals including sustainable development. As a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General, the United Nations (UN) Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. The mandate of the UN Global Compact is to guide and support the global business community in advancing UN goals and values through responsible corporate practices. Locally, the UN Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA) brings together signatories to the UN Global Compact, including more than 35 ASX 100 companies and other major corporates, non-profits and universities, to advance the private sector’s contribution to sustainable development through the universal framework provided by the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles. We lead, enable and connect business and stakeholders to create a sustainable future by supporting businesses to act responsibly and helping them find opportunities to drive positive business outcomes.

Yesterday, our Executive Director Kate Dundas proudly represented the UN Global Compact Network Australia at the COP31 Collaboration Group meeting with Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP and Assistant Minister for Treasury and Charities Andrew Leigh MP, and led by the Community Council for Australia. While the host location for COP31 is yet to be confirmed, we are committed to engaging the private sector as a key catalyst for advancing sustainability goals and driving climate action. It was an honor to join the COP31 Collaboration Group, led by the Communities Council Australia, in a productive meeting today with Minister Bowen. While the location for COP31 in 2026 is yet to be confirmed, the UN Global Compact Network Australia is fully committed to amplifying the voice of business in this process and supporting the Pacific and Australia to maximize the opportunities it presents. Australia stands uniquely positioned to showcase a global transition from a fossil fuel-dependent economy to a renewable energy superpower. Building on commitments like the pledge signed at Baku to halt new unabated coal power plants, we can lead by example. Minister Bowen has a clear vision for COP31 as an event that is focused, and implementation-driven—telling a powerful story of our nation’s ongoing transformation and centring Traditional Owner voices. This is a critical moment to demonstrate leadership and action on a global stage, and we’re ready to support the journey.

🌏 2024 UNiting Business LIVE Conference Highlights Key takeaways from the fireside chat featuring Christine Holgate, Group Chief Executive Officer at Team Global Express, and facilitated by Susan Mizrahi, GAICD, Independent Director at the UN Global Compact Network Australia: ▪ Christine emphasised the priority for businesses to prioritise decent work and fair pay, particularly for frontline workers, aligning with SDG #8 as a smart investment that boosts retention. Leading with humanity and purpose—where leaders actively listen and connect workers to meaningful roles—boosts cohesion. ▪ She highlighted the need to make sustainability a core business priority, particularly in high-emission sectors, to transform risks into opportunities. Embracing diversity and co-design in leadership fosters innovation, while transparent sustainability claims, measurable progress, and partnerships with government and civil society advance long-term goals in clean energy and fair labour. 🔗 Take the next step in future-proofing your business. Last Friday, the UN Global Compact Network Australia hosted UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, Professor Tomoya Obokata, for a series of business consultations as part of his official visit to Australia. The consultations involved meetings with both large businesses and SMEs and gave UN Global Compact Network participants the opportunity to engage with the Special Rapporteur to discuss best practices and challenges faced by businesses in reducing modern slavery risks. We wish Professor Obokata and Lilia Petrosyan all the best for the remainder of their visit and thank Corrs Chambers Westgarth for hosting us. #UNGCNAEvents #ModernSlavery #BizHumanRights
