As part of 16 Days in WA and Economic Abuse Awareness Day, we want to draw awareness to a common form of family and domestic violence: economic abuse. Economic abuse includes financial abuse and is a form of family violence in which one person restricts, exploits, or sabotages their partner or family member’s economic resources (including money, property, transport, or employment), limiting their autonomy and undermining their economic well-being and independence. Knowing the signs is often the first step to making a change and breaking the cycle. To learn more about economic abuse, visit the Centre for Women’s Economic Safety resource page. If you need support: 💜1800RESPECT: Call 1800 737 732, text 0458 737 732, or chat online. 💜Women's Domestic Violence Helpline: Call 1800 007 339. 💜Men's Domestic Violence Helpline: Call 1800 000 599. 💜Consumer Credit Legal Service: Call 08 9221 7066 for free legal advice. 💜Emergency Relief Food Access Service: Call 1800 979 777 💜Uniting WA: For financial counselling and other supports, call 1300 663 298. 💜To find more resources visit askizzy.org.au #EndEconomicAbuse #NoExcuseforEconomicAbuse #IEAAD24 #FDVAwareness #KeepOurCommunitySafe #UnitingWA #CentreforWomensEconomicSafety #CWES

To mark the start of the annual 16 Days in WA on November 25, our team proudly joined the march to end domestic and family violence. This year’s theme, “Play your part,” encourages us to recognise our individual responsibility in making sure the WA community is free of violence. Whether it's raising awareness, having hard conversations, supporting affected individuals, educating our communities, or working towards creating a safer environment for everyone, we believe every action counts. Together, we can make a difference and play our part in ending family and domestic violence. To find out more about how we play our part, visit our website. #16DaysinWA #EndFDV #FamilyandDomesticViolence #SaferCommunity #UnitingWA #WAGov

The Financial Wellbeing Collective has released the Financial Wellbeing in WA Snapshot 2024. The report highlights housing stress as a key contributor to clients' experiences of hardship. If you're experiencing financial stress – you’re not alone. Free support is available at thefwc.org.au 1800 932 050. Uniting WA is a proud member of the Financial Wellbeing Collective (The FWC) – a collaboration of organisations across the Perth Metropolitan region offering help and advice to people experiencing financial hardship.
The Financial Wellbeing in WA Snapshot 2024 uncovers housing stress as a key contributor of hardship in the client cohort the Financial Wellbeing Collective supports. Lack of available and affordable accommodation is creating enormous pressure on household budgets and is putting those experiencing hardship at risk of homelessness. Clients often prioritise rent or mortgage payments at the detriment of other living essentials such as food, medication, utilities and fuel. If you're experiencing financial stress – you’re not alone. Free support is available at thefwc.org.au 1800 932 050. Learn more about the experiences of financial hardship in our community. Today we celebrate the first milestone in the redevelopment of Uniting WA’s Wyn Carr House, with Housing and Homelessness Minister, Hon. John Carey MLA launching construction of the project. When completed, Wyn Carr House will offer 12 bedrooms with ensuites, and communal living areas for older women experiencing or at risk of homelessness, along with wrap around services including counselling, tenancy services and other supports as needed. The transformation of Wyn Carr House is a collaboration between the WA State Government and Uniting WA, in partnership with Housing All Australians (HAA) and private businesses. A huge thank you to our funders and supporters who are helping us bring this critical project to life, including the WA State Government, Lotterywest, Housing All Australians, City of Fremantle, private donors, and number of pro bono and low bono professional services and contractor partners including: Cox Architecture, MinterEllison, RPS, Western Projects, Planning Solutions, Element Materials Technology, Arup, Tim Davies Landscaping | Design + Build + Maintain | Commercial and Residential Projects WA, MNG, Code Group, Rider Levett Bucknall RLB, Colgan Industries, Galt Geotechnics, Print and Sign Co., TJ Peach and Associates (Tim Peach), braincells, Strategic Fire Consulting, Inc. and Powerledger. Older women are one of the fastest growing cohorts experiencing homelessness in Australia. Wyn Carr House will increase the supply of supportive social housing in Western Australia and deliver secure accommodation and support services to some of the most vulnerable members in our community. #UnitingWA #HousingallAustralians #Lotterywest #WAGov #HomelessnessSupport #EndHomelessness

We know many families are feeling the pressure more than ever this Christmas season. On Wednesday, North Metropolitan TAFE held a stall for Uniting WA at their ‘Sparkle for a Cause’ event, a Christmas market at North Metro Tafe to promote our Christmas Food Drive in addition to four other local charities. The community's donations will give families in need a chance to enjoy a happy, stress-free Christmas this year. Thank you to BOOM Radio for broadcasting the event, and to Hannah and Olivia for holding down the fort to spread awareness about Uniting WA.

On Tuesday, we hosted our 2024 Annual Public Meeting to celebrate our achievements and share key initiatives with our stakeholders. The ceremony began with a Welcome to Country by Dr. Len Collard and a blessing from Reverend Dr. Ian Tozer. In line with our recent ‘The Path Home’ campaign and exhibition, Lived Experience Advocate Gary bravely shared his story of finding home again after facing homelessness. Summaries provided by Uniting WA Chair Erica Haddon and Co-CEOs Michael Chester and Jen Park offered us insight into the successes of this year and what’s to come in 2025. Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support our mission. We look forward to another year of making a meaningful difference in the community. #UnitingWA
