According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, about 42 per cent of men will experience a mental health disorder in their lives; they are our partners, family, friends, and colleagues. So, how can everyone contribute to lifting the stigma around men’s mental health, and build workplaces and communities where they feel safe to talk about it? Hosted by David Pembroke, CEO of contentgroup, our #WorkwithPurpose live panel – Matthew Short, assistant secretary of the Child, Youth and Priority Populations, Matthew Breen, co-founder of Running for Resilience, and Lachlan Vivian-Taylor GAICD, general manager, Claims Management Group at Comcare – highlight the stories behind the numbers, including their own. They also talk about how you can look after yourself and those around you, and why it matters how you respond, not what happens to you. 🎧 Listen now to this very special episode: https://loom.ly/7FgUNjU

You aren’t what happens to you – what matters is how you respond. Destigmatising men’s mental health was the topic of our very first #WorkWithPurpose live podcast with Matthew Breen, co-founder Running For Resilience, Matthew Short, assistant secretary child, Youth and Priority Populations, Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, and Lachlan V., general manager, claims management, Comcare hosted tonight by David Pembroke, CEO of contentgroup. There were some incredible insights we wanted to share with you straight away: 💭 there is a story behind every statistic – always keep that in mind when making policy 💭some days there is a risk of desensitisation, you need to manage that in yourself 💭Psychological injuries are on the rise – Comcare has resources available to support you in your work 💭you aren’t what happens to you, it matters how you respond 💭exercise and community can support you 💭writing your thoughts down can help gain a different perspective 💭find people you can share your experience with 💭sometimes an acknowledgement that someone is struggling makes a world of difference 💭RUK Day should be every day – always ask your mates 💭Allow kids from a young age to be vulnerable 💭if you want to support veterans listen to them and believe them 💭 13 per cent of public servants don’t feel comfortable talking about their mental health – this is worth working on 💭hold space for the men in your lives to be vulnerable 💭support your partners, friends and colleagues in seeking help. There were more questions than we could possibly answer in the session, we’ll make sure to come back to them in future episodes of Work with Purpose. #WorkWithPurposeLive #MensMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness

Stay tuned to listen to our very first live episode of #WorkwithPurpose! 🎧 Coming 2nd December. Thanks to IPAA ACT, our panelists and of course, the audience for making it so special.
What a great experiment! Our first live podcast on Breaking the Stigma on Men's Mental Health was amazing. The energy in the room was so vibrant, so caring. The panel brought substance, powerful stories, lots of statistics and a reminder to see the people behind the numbers. But there were also a lot of laughs, joy and people connecting. Well done to the IPAA ACT and contentgroup team. Pemby, I reckon it was one of our best yet! David Pembroke #workwithpurpose
