The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the achievement of department, branch and corporate goals relative to profit, growth, service producer and client relations.

Your Role
The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the achievement of department, branch and corporate goals relative to profit, growth, service producer and client relations.
Your Responsibilities
Achievement of the Personal premium budget
- Achieve financial targets in relation to Rate and Retention of allocated portfolio including New business and renewals
- Underwriting authority in all lines. Within scope of delegated authority:
- Evaluates and accepts or declines new lines, renewals and endorsements. Evaluates and makes recommendation for acceptance or declination on risks which exceed authority.
- Assists manager in providing input on underwriting results, profit analysis, market environment, competitor analysis and as required for ad hoc reports and projects.
- Responsible for underwriting results of assigned portfolio.
- Maintain awareness of claim activity with assigned book and communicate with stakeholders as needed
- Contribute towards the continual development and improvement of the renewal process
- Actively develop & manage producer relationships, dealing with queries and handling any issues arising
- Ensure stakeholders are aware of market & producers challenges
- May have responsibility for assisting in underwriting training and producer relations.
- Responsible for upholding an exceptional underwriting service on assigned portfolio as well as the internal service demands of the business.
- Casualty underwriting experience preferred but not essential.
- Seeks solutions to unique underwriting situations.
- Consistently displays initiative and seeks opportunities to innovate.
- Understands pricing techniques and underwriting margins.
- Understands and interprets policy wordings.
- Understands the underwriting appetites of other departments and how they relate to interdepartmental accounts.
- Makes recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies.
- Familiar with the products and services of key competitors.
- Comfortable with a wide range of negotiation techniques.
- Communicates clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrates the ability to work well with others and influence decisions.
