Earlier this month I was in Brussels for EU #RawMaterialsWeek where I discussed opportunities for the European Union to work with likeminded, strategic partner countries such as Australia to build the secure, sustainable critical minerals supply chains we need to achieve #netzero by 2050. With some of the largest recoverable #criticalminerals in the world, #Australia is well positioned to become a globally significant supplier of minerals such as nickel, cobalt, #lithium, titanium, and tungsten. In fact, we have abundant resources of all 10 minerals required to produce a lithium-ion battery. Australia has a significant pipeline of major critical minerals projects; over 55 projects are near shovel ready, but they need offtake agreements and equity investment. The #EU has an urgent need for these minerals and looks to diversify its supply chain to counter exposure to volatile prices and production shortfalls. In May this year, Australia signed an MoU with the EU that looks to integrate critical minerals value chains, and deepen collaboration on research, innovation, ESG criteria and international standards. The roadmap for collaboration was endorsed during the conference. It was also a pleasure to host Darryl Cuzzubbo, CEO of Arafura Rare Earths Limited and hear about the importance of the Nolans Project, a fully permitted, construction-ready, single-site ore-to-oxide project in a Tier 1 location.
