Team Swedish Tech @ Slush! 🇸🇪 🇫🇮 Last week, our Startup Policy Officer, Kalle Fahlvik, had the opportunity to speak at the Team Sweden Tech Policy Track & Mingle in Helsinki. The panel discussion revolved around #startups and the state of Europe's #competitiveness. During his speech, Kalle made a key point: while it’s encouraging to see European politicians increasingly recognising the immense contributions and value of startups, recognition alone won’t drive change. With the new European Commission now in place, the moment has arrived for bold, meaningful action. A while back, Allied for Startups was selected to participate in drafting the General-Purpose AI Code of Practice. The first draft document, developed through collaboration among diverse stakeholders and facilitated by the European Commission’s AI Office, has now officially been published! This draft lays out guiding principles and objectives and welcomes feedback to further enhance the document. It addresses key areas such as transparency, copyright, and systemic risk management, with tailored provisions for advanced #AI models. A couple of months back, Ekaterina Zaharieva was nominated as the first ever European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, sparking excitement across the #innovation community! This milestone reflects years of dedicated advocacy, not only by Allied For Startups and its members but by countless other #startup associations across Europe, all pushing to get us here. In an article by Science|Business, our Director-General, Serena Borbotti-Frison, applauded this as a “huge gesture in favour of the business and startup ecosystem,” highlighting that while this is a strong political symbol that should be celebrated, it’s only the first step forward. We have followed the recent hearings, and are ready to see some of the promising ideas mentioned turn into reality, with impactful policies that simplify access to funding, enable smoother cross-border expansion, and strengthen the entire ecosystem.
