In a consortium with various research partners, Arsalis, UCLouvain - Université catholique de Louvain and HELHa — Haute École Louvain en Hainaut, AXINESIS has been working for nearly 3 years on a project to develop a telerehabilitation solution combining the REAtouch® Lite device and the HABIT-ILE method. The aim of this project, called FRITE@Home, is to evaluate the effectiveness of this solution in the form of intensive training courses (65 hours over 2 weeks) as well as follow-up courses (5 hours a week over 9 weeks), including at home evaluation protocols. This summer we start the second phase of clinical trials. 22 children with cerebral palsy have been recruited to take part in the randomized controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of this treatment. This study is being conducted by the UCLouvain - Université catholique de Louvain (MSL-IN lab) and the CeREF - Centre de recherche et de formation continue de la HELHa (Ffh lab - CeREF Santé). [𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡® 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲] Dr. Gauthier Everard and colleagues recently published an article on the assessment of manual dexterity with extended reality in stroke patients. This article, entitled “Extended reality to assess post-stroke manual dexterity: contrasts between the classic box and block test, immersive virtual reality with controllers, with hand-tracking, and mixed-reality tests” evaluated various technologies and showed “valid, short-term reliable and usable tools to assess poststroke manual dexterity”. One of these evaluated tests, called Manual Dexterity test in Mixed Reality (MD-MR), includes the use of the REAtouch® interactive tablet. Compared to the traditional Box and Block Test (BBT), the MD-MR was rated excellent on usability and for individuals with hemiparesis it showed a high correlation (r=0.95;p<0.001 ) on convergent validity compared to the scores of BBT. The games are also combined with audio-visual feedback and a playful environment.
