BASTA! Belgian Antimafia: Steps Towards Awareness!
Non-profit Organizations
BASTA! fights against all forms of organised crime by sensitising civil society, institutions and politicians.
About us
BASTA! asbl / vzw is a social anti-mafia association committed to the fight against all forms of corruption and organised crime, especially of the mafia type. The association aims to inform and raise awareness among the Belgian public about the transnational nature of organised crime and the presence and activities of criminal organisations in Belgium and Europe. Through its activities, it aims to contribute to a culture of legality and active citizenship, and thus to the social and cultural prevention and reparation of criminal phenomena. These include projects to observe, learn about and collect data on the different types of organised crime and mafia in Belgium, followed by cultural and educational events, workshops and conferences to inform and raise awareness among the public. Over the past decade, BASTA! has been raising awareness in Belgium and Europe of the importance of the public and social reuse of confiscated assets, not only as a way of combating organised crime, but also as a tool for social innovation and economic transformation. BASTA! is a founding member of the European network CHANCE - Civil Hub against orgaNised Crime in Europe. Our joint actions are aimed at European governments, European institutions, national and European civil society to promote the public and social re-use of confiscated assets, the pursuit of justice for victims of organised crime, anti-corruption measures and civil monitoring, transnational and cross-sectoral cooperation with authorities responsible for fighting organised crime.

We are proud and honoured to have hosted an event featuring such high-quality contributions. The roundtable "Investigating organised crime: the power of open-source intelligence" provided us with first-hand insight into the various facets, challenges, opportunities, and risks of using OSINT as a tool to investigate organised crime. We would like to thank Emanuel Delia, Jesus Palomo, Antonio Rossi, Sebastiaan van de Poll, Maarten Van Knippenberg, for sharing their expertise with such a diverse audience. We also thank our partners Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), SCPS - Sustainable Cooperation for Peace & Security, #CHANCEnetwork Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Initiative (@TeamATII) for their invaluable support with logistics, content, and dissemination. A special thanks to the Mayor of Commune de Saint-Gilles - Gemeente van Sint-Gillis-Gilles, Jean Spinette, and all the municipal staff for hosting us once again—with their warm smiles—in the most beautiful hall of this majestic building, which proudly celebrates its 120th anniversary this year. We hope that these meetings contribute to the bold path that the municipality has undertaken in the fight against organised crime. We extend our congratulations to #EntreNous for delighting us with their delicacies and Consorzio Libera Terra Mediterraneo Cooperativa sociale ONLUS wines, products of the social cooperatives that farm land #confiscated from the #mafia in Sicily. Last but certainly not least, we thank all those who have always supported us and attend our meetings, with a special mention to the dedicated #BASTA! volunteers – Antonio for the training development , Marcella Militello , Marcella Via , Ramona Longo , Sarah Vantorre for the coordination and communication – whose presence, tenacity, dedication and care have sustained our efforts over the past decade. For those interested in learning more about #OSINT techniques for combating organised crime, we invite you to explore the programme and register for the upcoming training sessions 📅 on 16, 23, and 30 November. https://lnkd.in/eFPQvbY3 Lastly, please remember our upcoming events: 📅 13/11 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM / online / Let’s Restart from the Good [ENG] https://lnkd.in/eXtHEk5z 📅 05/12 from 5 to 7 PM / Ghent University / SHOC BELGIUM – Scholarly Hub on Organised Crime https://lnkd.in/egKfMW8q 📅 7-8/12 Oxfam Gift Fair d'Oxfam Wereldwinkel Deurne / Zaal Drakenhof - Boekenberglei 213, 2100 Deurne
