A Brussels-based group of native and non-native English language writers of all styles and genres. Meeting Tuesdays 7pm
About us
The Brussels Writers’ Circle is an informal group for English language prose writers, poets, playwrights, non-fiction writers, screenwriters (and everything in between) based in Brussels. Although we write and discuss in English, you do not necessarily have to be a native speaker in order to join. Apart from English, Scottish, Irish, American, Australian and South African writers, we also have Dutch, French, Russian, Slovak, Romanian and Seychellois members, and even a Belgian or two. Every week, members of the group bring along pieces of their writing (short stories, poetry, chapters of novels, memoirs, instruction manuals, whatever) to share with the group. They distribute copies of the piece and then read it out loud for everyone. Afterwards we take a few minutes to pepper their pages with our criticisms and compliments, and we then discuss the piece all together. If you would like to come along just to listen to other people’s work and offer feedback that is fine, but as the group is not just about helping other writers with their work but also developing your own, we do encourage everyone to bring in copies of their writing to share. We'll be having a meeting tomorrow, 19th November, between 7pm and 9pm in the Muntpunt library, in our usual Zinneke 1 room. If you arrive before 7pm you can access through the library on Place de la Monnaie (closest metro/tram/bus De Brouckère). If that entrance is closed, you can enter through the Muntpunt Cafe, at Rue Leopold 2 around the back of the library. Remember that the deadline to submit a story to the Ideas Festival is 26th November. The theme this year is Futures. You can find more information about this competition on the Full Circle web page: https://lnkd.in/e28xr9FX Apart from the competition, there will be a series of activities, including a workshop. Those who took part last year have fond memories of it, so this year you can try again, especially because the format will change. You can even bring the project you started last year to get some feedback on it. You can find more information on the Full Circle web page. We look forward to seeing you! With November approaching, it's time to start brainstorming ideas for the NaNoWriMo challenge! What is NaNoWriMo? Whether you're a pro or a newbie to writing, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenges writers of all levels of experience to complete the first draft of a novel (50,000 words) in just one month. The idea is to get over THE FEAR of the blank page and shake procrastination and perfectionism by developing a daily writing habit. How does it work? Once you've signed up to the challenge, you have access to a range of supports for writers, including a writing dashboard to track your progress, how-to-materials, community forums where you can connect with other writers and reach out to them for support, find NaNoWriMo groups for writing sprints, tips and encouragement from published authors, and much more!
