We'll be having a meeting tomorrow, 19th November, between 7pm and 9pm in the Muntpunt library, in our usual Zinneke 1 room. If you arrive before 7pm you can access through the library on Place de la Monnaie (closest metro/tram/bus De Brouckère). If that entrance is closed, you can enter through the Muntpunt Cafe, at Rue Leopold 2 around the back of the library. Remember that the deadline to submit a story to the Ideas Festival is 26th November. The theme this year is Futures. You can find more information about this competition on the Full Circle web page: https://lnkd.in/e28xr9FX Apart from the competition, there will be a series of activities, including a workshop. Those who took part last year have fond memories of it, so this year you can try again, especially because the format will change. You can even bring the project you started last year to get some feedback on it. You can find more information on the Full Circle web page. We look forward to seeing you! Your BWC Team https://lnkd.in/e5HAkhDY Schedule until end-2024 If you want to book a reading slot for any of these dates just let us know in response to this email. 19/11 - Muntpunt 26/11 - Zoom 3/12 - Muntpunt 10/12 - Zoom 17/12 - Muntpunt (TBC)

I did not moderate any discussions at this year's Opinion Festival, nor did I participate in any panel discussions. I didn't listen to what politicians and experts had to say about Estonia's economy, foreign policy, healthcare, environment, energy, etc. To be honest, all of this has been heard, talked about, and discussed many times before—the same people, the same thoughts. No big ideas, no exciting new or bold visions or approaches. So instead, I explored the cultural program "Lost Paide, Lost Times" (Estonia's Opinion Festival takes place in the small town of Paide), where a group of talented young artists, writers, photographers, actors, performers, musicians, etc., from Estonia and beyond shared their stories about people and places. And it was a genuine experience. Art speaks and touches in a completely different way than political discussions and expert panels. The exhibitions, concerts, and other events in the program addressed important issues directly, honestly, and poignantly, reaching directly to your consciousness and heart. It highlighted, in my opinion, the most important and critical topic for Estonia — DISAPPEARANCE, FADING AWAY. The disappearance of places, the fading away of people's and place's vitality, the disappearance of self-belief and self-worth, the disappearance of opportunities and possibilities, the fading away of hope and trust, the disappearance of empathy and humanity, and the disappearance of hope for a better future. If there are no more universal human values that would carry us as a society, if a large part of people have the all-embracing feeling that they are not needed, they do not matter, and they are left behind, then this is a threat to the security and sustainability of the whole country. It is high time to put the people, their well-being, their hopes and dreams in the spotlight of our public discourse. We need a new value framework in which people are not merely seen as political objects within a prefabricated policy design but as equal partners who engage and articulate their subjective positions. Making a nobody feeling like a somebody. "How do you want to be treated?” must be the only question which need to be asked.

Here my (personal) list of things I do at conferences to drive participants attention & engagement 🪄 - hope you find these useful!
In the world of conferences, seminars and workshops, there's no one-size-fits-all formula for keeping participants engaged. But there are tried and true tactics for getting — and holding — the audience's attention. 👀 Cesar Robles from Helvetas' Learning and Innovation team shares the *most* important thing to keep front of mind, how a chair can lend an energy boost, and where music can play a key role. 🎶 Read his top tips 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_8gdXm2

How do you be open... While still being fiercely protective of your core? Those of you who have had the opportunity to see me speak on stage will know this: In that moment, proverbially breaking the 4th wall, I am a pure channel. Connected, conscious, creative. Heart open. Bearing my humanity for all to experience. There is so much discussion around... Form and format, content, and metrics. The methods, the frameworks. The language. But all of these things are just that: mediums for exchange. Catalysts for change. And sometimes, these abstractions — even words themselves — have the opposite effect on the connection we are trying to form. In other words, they dis-intermediate. So when I speak to conference organizers, I start with the most important takeaway: How do you want your audience to FEEL? Because, in the end, that is the intent of exchange. To share. To receive. To be open. ••••••• 🗣️ Event: Stansberry Research, 2022 🤝 Agent: Gotham Artists

Save the Date: Connected Audience 2025 Theater Strahl, Berlin/Germany May 21-23, 2025 The next Connected Audience Conference will address the topic of cultural participation and engagement for young people. Active encounters with cultural activities, artistic and creative content are important components of healthy adolescent development, supporting young people's personalities and opportunities for a self-determined lifestyle. But what do we know about how to facilitate these encounters? What are the challenges and opportunities? Finding answers requires an understanding of young people's cultural practices and orientations, building on these and shaping processes together. To explore and discuss this topic the Institut für Kulturelle Teilhabeforschung | Institute for Research on Cultural Participation (Berlin/Germany) in collaboration with the Institute for Learning Innovation (USA) will bring together young people, experts, researchers, and practitioners from the global cultural sector for debate and exchange. Conference Design The international biennial conference will provide inspiring discussions and productive interactions between its various participants and facilitators. There will be a minimum of “talking heads” and a maximum of interaction and participation. We seek to create a facilitating and stimulating atmosphere with a strong dialogical approach. We invite you to gain relevant experiences and insights both for your research and professional practice. Taking on more of a workshop feeling you will learn from experts and your colleagues from around the world. More information and a call for proposals coming soon!

📌 #SaveTheDate The European Festivals Association, Stiftung Zukunft Berlin and A Soul for Europe are glad to announce that the Berlin Conference will take place on 7 and 8 November at the Allianz Forum, right next to the iconic Brandenburg Gate! EFA, along with festivals and festival cities and regions, will once again be key contributors. Since 2004, this conference has brought together a diverse spectrum of individuals from the arts to politics, providing a platform for collective discussion and action towards a cultural Europe. Reflecting on the words of then newly appointed President of the European Commission, José-Manuel Barroso, “The questions of what Europe can do for culture, and what culture can do for Europe, are not new. But in this context they have acquired a new sense of urgency […] What is needed now is sustainability of action – the translation of good intentions into good decisions.” Detailed information about the programme and registration links will follow soon. If you have any questions, please send an email to info@efa-aef.eu.
