The University of Bristol has been awarded more than €5.5 million in European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant funding! The awards will support three exceptional research projects across diverse disciplines. Many congratulations to: 🏆 Dr. Naomi Millner from Human Geography for research into community involvement in peatland conservation. 🏆 Dr. Thomas Sharp from Biochemistry for a project on proteins that could pave the way for therapies for hard-to-treat diseases. 🏆 Dr. Konstantinos Tsetsos from Psychological Sciences for research into human information processing in decision making. This success places Bristol joint second in the UK for the number of ERC Consolidator Grants awarded this year—a testament to the outstanding work of our researchers! We are delighted to introduce 2 new colleagues in the University of Bristol Europe Office! Carla F., originally from Germany, completed her BSc in Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol in 2024. She previously worked at the University as a Student Fellow at the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching, leading the Student Research Journal as its Editor-in-Chief, and in two positions as Research Assistant. Alongside her interest in European policy, she is engaged in volunteering activities around democracy protection and political extremism. Outside work she enjoys martial arts and has a brown belt in Karate. Katerina Korneliou, originally from Cyprus, graduated from the University of Bristol Law School in 2023 and has recently finished her MSc in Global Governance and Ethics at UCL. She has previously worked as Student Advisor at the University of Bristol Law Clinic and served as General Secretary of the University of Bristol Law Club in the academic year 2022/23. Her interests include European policy and diplomacy, human rights and climate justice. In her free time, she enjoys taking walks, reading fiction and learning French. Both Carla and Katerina will be working to support the University’s European activities as Policy and Research Development Officers over the next year – welcome both to the team!

These include raising the profile of the University in Europe, monitoring and influencing policy and funding initiatives, and building relations with key partners.
