FMV Meets UGent Metals Consortium: A Successful Event on Sustainable Metals R&D and Production What an incredible event! The FMV meets Ghent University Metals Consortium: Metals R&D – Sustainable Processes and Products was a huge success, attracting over 80 professionals from both academia and the metals industry. We had the privilege of hearing from outstanding speakers, including: 🔹 Marian Flores Granobles, Ph.D. (FINOCAS)- ArcelorMittal's Climate Roadmap 🔹 Isabelle Tolleneer (CRM Group) – Sustainable Processes and Product Innovation at CRM 🔹 Bruno Schepers and Mehdi L. (Aluminium Duffel) – From Post-Consumer Scrap to Sustainable Products 🔹 Jimmy De Wilde (Aperam) – Sustainable Steel, Responsibly Made by Aperam Their presentations provided invaluable insights into how the metals industry can evolve toward more sustainable practices and products. In addition to these industry leaders, we were inspired by young, promising professors who showcased their groundbreaking research projects in sustainability and metal innovation: 🔹 Gwenny Thomassen - The environmental life cycle sustainability of metal matters - STEN's experience 🔹 Tom Depover - Environmental assisted degradation of metals 🔹 Inge Bellemans - High-temperature metallurgy: crucial at making our industry circular 🔹 Kris Hectors - Numerical and data-driven metal fatigue research The event was fully booked, a clear reflection of the growing interest in sustainable metallurgy. After the talks, attendees had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas over freshly made pizzas and drinks – a fantastic way to continue the conversation in a relaxed setting. A big thank you to all the speakers, attendees, and organizers who made this event a success, especially Karen Hemelsoet and Patrick De Baets We look forward to more collaborations and innovations in the field of sustainable metals! 👏 Proud to see CRM Group showcased at the PROMETIA Scientific Seminar by our colleague , Bernard Vanderheyden, on November 26-27 at BRGM in Orléans. During the session on METNET, Bernard highlighted our work in developing and scaling pyrometallurgical recycling processes through projects like: COACH, enabling low-CO2 recycling for steelmaking by-products, successfully tested at Tata Steel Nederland. Reverse Metallurgy, recovering critical raw materials for the energy transition with innovative techniques combining pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy. Proud to contribute to green steel, circularity, and the energy transition! #CRMGroup #Innovation #GreenSteel #CircularEconomy #EnergyTransition #Forabetterfuture
On 26&27 November, I enjoyed once more participating to the outstanding annual PROMETIA #ScientificSeminar, held this year at BRGM in Orléans. During the session dedicated to #METNET, a collaborative network of European pilot plants for extractive metallurgy and mineral processing, I had the opportunity to highlight how new pyrometallurgical #recycling processes and associated #preprocessing techniques are developed and upscaled at CRM Group. This was illustrated by : (i) the COACH project, a European #RFCS funded project, where recipes for cement-free #agglomeration of #steelmaking #byproducts were developed at lab and pilot scale for low CO2 #recycling in blast furnaces, and finally successfully tested at full scale in Tata Steel Nederland; (ii) #ReverseMetallurgy projects funded by the #WalloonRegion, aiming to recover Critical Raw Materials for the #energytransition by combining #pyrometallurgy (in our pilot scale #plasmafurnace) and #hydrometallurgy, in collaboration with JGI-HYDROMETAL; the preparation of hazardous materials (drying, intensive mixing, #briquetting or #extrusion...) being carried out with special care for #safety and #environment in a dedicated clean room. #Innovation #GreenSteel #CRMAct European Research Executive Agency (REA) Circular Wallonia S3 Wallonia | Smart Specialisation Strategy WIN4C - Walloon Initiative for Circular Materials
