About us
The DiversIT Charter is a CEPIS flagship initiative aimed at reducing gender disparity in IT roles. It is a certification which moves through three levels of attainment: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has a focus on attraction and retention, asking applicants to showcase their initiatives and policies for increasing gender diversity in ICT professions. Certified organisations become members of a vibrant European network of diversity-conscious technology companies.

We kick off this week in the right frame of mind with a quote from our latest 'Grow in Tech' post where our diversity experts addressed a community question: "How can we make leadership more inclusive?" "To make leadership more inclusive, we must first assess the organisation’s genuine commitment to change." This quote was from Marina Cabrini, who is part of our fabulous assessment team and working group. This week we posted another instalment in our 'Grow in Tech' series, where our diversity experts answer some key questions raised by our community. The question at hand was: How can we make leadership more inclusive? For today's lunchtime conversation we'd like you to think about this response from Petra Kotuliakova: "To achieve meaningful progress in diversity, change must begin at the highest levels of the organisation. Mere verbal commitments from the board aren't enough. They must take concrete actions to foster a more inclusive environment. This means allocating resources and personnel, not just through voluntary programmes, but as a strategic priority." So, what 'concrete actions' are you taking? We'd love to hear what works so we can share ideas and best practise among our community. Happy Monday to you all. Today we want to start the week well with a reminder about our core mission: "When the organisation treats women equitably, that’s when we can expect the workers to do the same." This quote is from Sabine Kruspig and featured in our latest ‘Grow In Tech’ series, exploring the big questions still to answer in our quest for more equitable technology environments. Excellent day in #Cyprus! Marina Cabrini, Erika Wesselingh-Gutmane from CEPIS and Skevi Skordallou , CISA from Cyprus Computer Society - CCS met with representatives from Open University of Cyprus, University of Nicosia, Frederick University, European University Cyprus, UCLan Cyprus, Neapolis University Pafos and University of Limassol to explore the main issues that tech/STEM programmes face when it comes to gender (in)equality, create new collaborations and, of course, get inspired by each other's amazing work! Key takeaways: - It is vital to educate parents and teachers on the importance of encouraging girls to pursue studies in #tech - we still encounter many who actively discourage their daughters/female pupils from getting into STEM. - Stakeholders must focus on sustainable activities rather than ad-hoc events to ensure maximum impact. - Exchange of information both on national and pan-European level is crucial to amplify the effects of activities and initiatives. - We need role models/mentors, especially local ones who girls can relate to. Women who have progressed further in their careers, on the other hand, need more sponsors rather than just mentors. All today's participants have wonderful and impactful initiatives in place - from scholarships to info days to tech activities. Next step: share the success stories and join forces to achieve more girls and women in tech! Find out more about DiversIT here: https://lnkd.in/dzktWvu

Today we want to spark a conversation around the topic we covered in this week's Grow In Tech Post: Breaking Down the 'Bro Culture' in Tech. In the post Nurcan Sunay made the following observation: "There are many women who still believe that technology is a man's job, and they need to be convinced they are just as capable as men before we can make significant progress. To challenge societal norms that favour male leadership, we must promote gender equality in education, support women's participation in the workforce and leadership roles, and raise awareness among both men and women about gender bias and the importance of diversity in leadership." Do you agree? What methods do you think will work in raising this awareness across the world? We would love to read your inputs below. This week we want to motivate you with a plan to get more girls interested in studying technology. What can you do this week to achieve the following?: "Providing opportunities for girls to ask questions and gain a clear understanding of how a career in ICT can positively impact their lives is crucial." This comes from Skevi Skordallou , CISA, who is a dedicated advocate for women in IT in Cyprus, serving on the Cyprus Computer Society Board, and part of the DiversIT Charter Expert Working Group. She made the suggestion in last week's Grow In Tech post.
