As the name implies, aerial surveying relies on airspace access to capture vital data. Since its inception, EAASI has worked to raise awareness about the unique challenges crewed aerial mapping faces, particularly in Europe’s crowded skies. Liaising with Air Traffic Control authorities is critical in this mission. Our article, published in the ATCA Bulletin, highlights these efforts and reflects the intense discussions held on this topic during the recent EAASI Summits. [link in the comments] We extend our sincere thanks to ENAIRE, and NAV PORTUGAL for their collaboration and invaluable insights. Special thanks to ATCA for the opportunity to share this with over 3,000 members #airborne #aviation #atc #atm #aerialmapping

During the EAASI Summit in Athens on Friday, 22 November, EAASI Secretary-General Marcos Martinez met with Charalampos Paraschou, Commanding General of the Hellenic Military Geographical Service (HMGS). Founded in 1889, the HMGS is the mapping agency of the Hellenic Military, responsible for producing topographic and cadastral maps of Greece. This meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between national mapping agencies and the aerial surveying industry to address geospatial challenges effectively. #greece #geospatialdata #topography #mapping

Crewed aerial data proves invaluable in disaster response, as demonstrated by EAASI member SPASA Servicios Politécnicos Aéreos S.A.'s efforts after the October 2024 floodings in Valencia. Their combined photogrammetry and LiDAR survey on November 11 covered 1,000 hectares in the Barranc de Torrent at 5cm GSD resolution, capturing critical areas affected by the event. The Instituto Geográfico Nacional de España y O.A. CNIG, responsible for coordinating geospatial information in Spain, manages the data, including orthophotos, terrain models, and classified point clouds, to support damage assessment and planning. The IGN released a viewer allowing users to compare pre- and post-event orthophotos, aiding recovery efforts. This tool will update as more data becomes available.
