We are at the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) organised event “Shaping the Future: Advancing Private Sector Development for a Resilient and Prosperous OACPS” with our investee Cajou Espoir’s managing director Jerome Poulin representing our EDFI AgriFI - The Agriculture Financing Initiative. Jerome talks about financial inclusion and the need to strengthen value chains. Only around 10% of cashews of Togo are processed in the country by Cajou Espoir and the rest is exported in raw form. #developmentfinance #impactinvesting #togo

"At EDFI Management Company we are determined to decisively contribute to the M300 goal by leveraging our resources and expertise, in particular our blended finance offer to provide the right risk-return balance to mobilise additional capital. We are specifically aimed at providing private sector-led electrification solutions in the most difficult contexts such us conflict-affected territories or rural and isolated regions. Pumping equity into purpose-driven companies that deploy cutting-edge decentralised renewable energy technology is a must if we want to ensure affordable electricity for all. However, the scale of the challenge demands that we work together more closely than ever before. No single institution or approach can solve Africa’s energy access challenge alone. We must align our efforts, share knowledge, and coordinate our investments to maximize impact. The National Compacts presented by many Governments in the M300 Energy Africa Summit shows us all the way forward. The path to universal energy access in Africa is clear, but it requires unwavering commitment and unprecedented collaboration. By working together – development finance institutions, governments, private companies, and local communities – we can turn the vision of Mission 300 into reality. We have the tools, the knowledge, and the determination. Now is the time to act, collectively and decisively, to illuminate Africa’s future." by Rodrigo Madrazo Garcia de Lomana, Ph.D Link in comments #mission300 #tanzania

Excellent meeting in Dar es Salaam in the #M300 Africa energy summit. It was a pleasure to share views with the authorities of Burundi and all the stakeholders around the Weza projects, one of the M300 flagships. Rodrigo Madrazo Garcia de Lomana, Ph.D & Jean-Denis Collin, CFA #mission300 #africa
18 months ago, our portfolio company, Anzana Electric Group (formerly Virunga Power) launched Weza Power, a new distribution utility that aims to deliver electricity for 70% of Burundi’s population. This is a tough challenge in a country where electricity access is currently only 12%. Today, at the M300 African Energy Summit, we joined our partners in the project to discuss the next phase of implementation as Weza Power continues to expand its funding partner network. Our new CEO, Erik Knive and Head of Business Development, Christopher Flavin met Burundi’s Energy Minister, Ibrahim Uwizeye, and new Finance Minister, Nestor Ntahontuye to highlight Weza’s recent progress and to update them on the progress of two new hydro generation projects that Anzana is building. Weza is Africa’s first private sector, national scale distribution utility in more than a decade. The PPP model for rapid electrification through private sector-led grid expansion and operations that Weza Power employs can provide a template which we hope will be adopted in other countries in the region and holds the promise of getting us all closer to Mission 300’s target of connecting 300 million Africans by 2030. Burundi needs better power generation and supply to drive economic growth and help people meet their basic needs. We’re proud to invest in businesses transforming Burundi’s national energy infrastructure. #Burundi #africanenergy British International Investment Brian Kelly African Development Bank Group IFC Africa The World Bank Group Andrew Herscowitz Christopher Chijiutomi

We had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including the Deputy Managing Director Mr. Bo Li, and the Climate Finance Policy Unit Chief Mr Prasad Ananthakrishnan. Our discussions centred on potential collaborations with IMF and their Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST). Mr. Bo Li’s insightful remark that “without private sector investment, public investment cannot achieve much” resonates deeply with our mission. It underscores the critical role that development finance institutions play in catalysing private capital for sustainable development and climate action. Our CEO Rodrigo Madrazo Garcia de Lomana, Ph.D and CIO Jean-Denis Collin, CFA will be attending the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit next week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This pivotal event, taking place on 27-28 January 2025, will bring together African Heads of State, development partners, private sector leaders, and civil society to address one of the continent's most pressing challenges: access to electricity. Mission 300 is mobilizing unprecedented public and private investments to deliver both on-grid and off-grid solutions, enabling access to reliable energy for remote and underserved communities. The aim of the summit is to gather forces and expand electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030, a crucial step in driving economic growth and unlocking development throughout the region. With nearly 600 million Africans currently lacking access to electricity, this initiative is more important than ever. It is our mission and commitment to sustainable energy solutions and economic development in Africa to contribute to shaping the future of energy access in Africa. We look forward to engaging in discussions on increasing infrastructure investments, implementing policy reforms, and crowding in private sector financing to achieve the ambitious goals of Mission 300. #Mission300 #AfricaEnergySummit #SustainableEnergy #EconomicDevelopment #PoweringAfrica Watch the public sessions at https://lnkd.in/daRXbyBd
