  • The Solar Heat sector is a relevant partner for the upcoming EU Clean Industrial Deal and its successful delivery! - For several months now, #competitiveness has been at the heart of European debates. And rightly so, as European industries need to be supported and protected in the face of international competition. Solar Heat Europe looks forward to the upcoming Commission’s initiative expected tomorrow, 26 Feb. 2025 for a Clean Industrial Deal as a pivotal step towards ensuring a sustainable and competitive industrial sector, aligned with the European Union’s climate neutrality goals. As a key clean tech sector recognized under the Net Zero Industry Act, the Solar Heat sector – based in Europe – expects the Clean Industrial Deal to deliver on all its promises, especially for clean tech SMEs such as the ones which characterize our sector. As such, the Deal must: - Promote the growth of existing EU #cleantech sectors, such as Solar Heat, to bolster manufacturing within Europe, enhance competitiveness, drive innovation, and create jobs. - Help accelerate the #decarbonisation of European industries 👷♂️ and ensure access to clean and affordable energy; promoting on-site energy generation & use of clean and affordable solutions, for both ⚡ power AND ♨️ heat. ☀️ Solar heat must be part of the plan as it has a lot to offer to enable this decarbonisation thanks to the production of renewable, on-site heat supplies made by EU companies for EU industries! Solar Heat Europe members expect from the Clean Industrial Deal to: => Protect and grow EU Cleantech sectors, encourage innovation whilst ensuring a level playing field across technologies: => Boost demand for renewable heat and EU-made Cleantech solutions => Support access to finance, avoiding fossil fuel lock-ins and establish a European Clean Heat Fund. • Today, 24 Feb 2025, marks the grim third anniversary of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Since then, tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives and been forced into exile. This anniversary marks also the weaponization of energy supplies by a country. For these reasons, our independence vis à vis energy sources as well as our objective to achieve climate neutrality in Europe due to the obvious scientific evidence should be our core priorities. Here are our latest 3 key activities to reach that goal: - Solar Heat Europe is looking forward to the upcoming European Commission communications on Affordable Energy Action Plan and the Roadmap towards ending Russian energy imports. Our key messages ahead of this communication can be found herewith, showcasing how our sector Solar Heat, can help tackle our journey towards energy resilience, home grown energy production from renewables and affordability. - In the same vein, we have co-signed together with many organisations this letter by Clean Heat Europe to – Fast-track Europe’s competitiveness in clean heat – Unleash a demand shock for clean heat solutions – Enshrine air quality at the heart of Europe’s net zero economy  Find our joint letter herewith (ink in comments below): Open Letter: A Clean Heat Wave for European Competitiveness – heatright - And last but not least, Solar Heat Europe is now a new member of the @BringHeatHome campaign ! The campaign responds to a stark reality: heating and cooling account for over half of the EU’s energy demand, around 27% of total CO₂ emissions, and a significant share of costly fossil fuel imports. It calls for an accelerated deployment of sustainable district energy systems, heat pumps, renewable heat sources and energy efficiency solutions across Europe, highlighting their critical role in delivering affordable energy, climate action, energy security, and economic competitiveness. Let’s join forces to make this energy transition a reality. Because it can be a win for our societies, our independence and our economy. And may our values for peace, democracy and sustainable progress prevail. Full details available here https://lnkd.in/epiv_U2p

✉️ Open letter: A Clean Heat Wave for European Competitiveness ✉️ Decarbonising Europe’s Heating & Cooling needs is essential both to meet our climate objectives and protect our industrial competitiveness. Heating & Cooling makes up half of our total energy needs, and right now, many clean heat solutions are ready to deploy and deliver clean, affordable heating. Encouragingly, the EU boasts a strong domestic manufacturing base, but we cannot take this competitiveness for granted. At the moment, 60-73% of heat pumps installed in Europe are manufactured here. In a similar vein, 69% of all high-value invention patents in District Heating and Cooling technologies are held in Europe. This also applies to the geothermal and the solar thermal industries, which manufacture in Europe, currently meeting 90% of EU demand while exporting globally. Today, we publish this open letter co-signed by 8 trade associations and civil society groups, as the heating and cooling sector presents an opportunity for Europe to maintain an already strong position vis-a-vis other leading economies, in an ongoing global cleantech race. Our letter outlines effective policy measures that contribute to ushering in an age of European clean heat leadership: 📈 Fast-track Europe’s competitiveness in clean heat ⚡ Unleash a demand shock for clean heat solutions  🌬️ Enshrine air quality at the heart of Europe’s net zero economy Safeguarding our clean heat transition is vital for our future economy. We can establish an energy-efficient built environment and wean off the current fossil fuel dependency of a sector that represents more than half of both industrial and residential energy consumption. • #Heatishalf of our energy needs.... Yet, it is still not clearly identified as a priority in the recently published 2025 Work Programme from the European Commission (see first comment). Whilst we welcome the announcements for the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal, Affordable Energy Action Plan, Industry Decarbonisation Accelerator Plan and the phase out of Russian gas imports, announced in the Commission Work Programme, Solar Heat Europe and its members are concerned about the European Commission's lack of clarity regarding a heating and cooling strategy. With only this 'light' reference ie, “explore methods to decarbonise Europe’s heating and cooling systems and integrate citizens and communities as key participants in the energy transition”, we indeed believe that more should be done for this key energy need.   The last heating and cooling strategy dates back to 2016, it is then urgent that a new strategy, in line with economic, geopolitical and climate challenges, is developed asap, for the benefit of both European industries and households across the continent.   The deployment of the latest technologies for industrial and residential heating is necessary to restore the competitiveness of the European economy. #Solarthermal energy: ·     is manufactured in the European Union; . is a no-regret solution which reduces any other energy consumption ·     makes European industry independent by decoupling its costs from geopolitical and economic developments; . provides an affordable and predictable source of heat. #Solarheat must be supported by a proper EU heating and cooling strategy, so as ultimately to have a strong "Made in Europe" solar industry, boosting the continent's competitiveness.
