  • 🤔 Which were the busiest worldwide city pairs in 2024 in terms of flights ✈️? Our #DataSnapshot investigates the top 💯…(and our pic sends a clear hint about #1!) The top 5 global city pairs in 2024 based on daily connections were all domestic & Jeju-Seoul 🇰🇷 topped the list with 226 average daily ✈️. The other top pairs? Melbourne-Sydney 🇦🇺 (157 daily ✈️), Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo 🇧🇷 (152), Sapporo-Tokyo (147) & Fukuoka-Tokyo 🇯🇵 (137). Some other interesting top 💯city pair facts: 📌 the region with the most pairs? Asia/Pacific with 45/100 📌 the most-paired 🔗 cities? New York (13 other destinations), then Tokyo (8) & London (7) 📌 the longest & the shortest ⌚️ flight times between pairs? London-New York (on average 6.8 hours) - and Vancouver-Victoria (only 23 mins!). 📌 Europe's busiest city pairs?   • Our latest #EAO shows air traffic ✈️ up across the board in Week 6: higher in almost all major #airports, #airlines & States than in Week 5, with 24,776 average daily network flights, ⬆️5% vs the same period in 2024 & ⬆️3% week-on-week. 👉 A quick look at Europe's busiest airports shows 📍 all are handling more traffic than in 2024, and all bar 1st place Istanbul (1,336 daily ✈️, ▼4%) are busier than last week 📍 the highest growth vs 2024 (⬆️13%) is shared by 4th place Paris CDG (1,143 daily ✈️) and 8th place Rome Fiumicino (755 daily ✈️) 📍 Barcelona in 7th place recorded the highest growth vs Week 5, ⬆️7% & 842 daily ✈️ 📍 Zürich joins the top 10 on 626 daily ✈️, ⬆️6% vs 2024, compared to late-2024, replacing Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen 📍 …but only 3* of those top 10 airports (London Heathrow, Madrid and Barcelona) are currently handling traffic above their 2019 levels (*4/10 with Istanbul, which we exclude as it only went into full operations in April 2019).     ⚠️ Mind the research to deployment gap! 🚧 Yesterday we welcomed SESAR Deployment Manager (SDM) representatives to #EIH the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub to discuss how we can best cooperate to make #SESAR research solutions ready for deployment by operational stakeholders. Tânia Cardoso Simões, EUROCONTROL's Director of European Green Sky & Laurent Renou, Head of EIH, together with the team, had the opportunity to exchange with: 📌 Mariagrazia La Piscopia, SDM Executive Director 📌 Heiko Teper, SDM Head of Strategy and Technical Execution The key topic was to see how EUROCONTROL and its Innovation Hub can support SDM in making SESAR Joint Undertaking industrial research solutions that reached technology readiness level 6 (TRL6) ready for #deployment. In addition, we talked about: ✈️ EIH strategy #Innov2030, part of EUROCONTROL's #RaisingTheBar programme ✈️ SDM strategy and plans ✈️ #EATIN - our user-driven innovation portfolio addressing stakeholders' operational challenges ✈️ EIH's innovation for ANSPs projects including ATC Automation & TMA Optimisation. We also gave our guests a tour of our unique simulation facilities, including en-route, tower, network and cockpit simulators, and visited an ongoing simulation preparation session with Italian stakeholders on higher airspace operations.

  • 📊 24,776 average daily flights ✈️ in Week 6's #NetworkUpdate, ⬆️3% vs Week 5 & traffic growing every day. 👉That's brought YTD traffic to 966K flights, which is steady at 95% of pre-pandemic, and ⬆️5% vs last year. The bulk of that growth 🤔? Intra-European, by far the largest segment & ⬆️4% vs Week 5 on 18,758 daily ✈️. Of the top 5 flows, only 3rd largest ◁▷ North Africa was up more week-on-week (⬆️5%, 1,150 daily ✈️), whereas traffic dipped elsewhere (◁▷ the Middle East ▼2%, 1,379 daily ✈️, and ▼1% ◁▷ North America & Asia/Pacific, 921 & 841 daily ✈️ respectively in both directions). 8 of the 10 busiest #airlines & States, & 9/10 busiest #airports, were up vs Week 5 (with all airlines and airports, and 8/10 States, busier than this time last year). A quick round up of the top 3s in comparison to the previous week: 📌 #airline groups: Ryanair 2,527 daily ✈️ (⬆️11%), Turkish Airlines 1,351 daily ✈️ (▼5%) & easyJet 1,227 daily ✈️ (⬆️29%, the fastest increase among the top 40 airlines let alone the top 10) 📌 #airports: iGA Istanbul Airport 1,336 daily ✈️ (▼4%), London Heathrow 1,276 daily ✈️ (⬆️2%) & Amsterdam Schiphol 1,234 daily ✈️ (⬆️3%) 📌 States: The UK 🇬🇧 4,646 daily ✈️ (⬆️5%), Spain 🇪🇸 4,117 daily ✈️ (⬆️7%, the highest in the top 10) & Germany 🇩🇪 3,875 daily ✈️ (⬆️2%).
