Affordable energy for all—that’s our #BringHeatHome motto, and we’re excited to see the Commission is making it a priority this Mandate! 💪 This Wednesday the European Commission launched its Action Plan for Affordable Energy, to secure affordable, efficient and clean energy for all Europeans. EU Energy Commissioner Dan Joergensen recognised the benefit of expanding clean local heat sources, scaling up the use of renewable and recovered heat sources, heat pumps deployment and energy efficiency measures. A revised Heating and Cooling Strategy was announced for early next year, a crucial step to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, saving billions annually! It bears repeating: a safe and comfortable home starts with clean heating and cooling, the same goes for a secure, competitive and sustainable Europe. It introduces new incentives for energy system #flexibility and highlights industrial #decarbonisation and #affordability—all key to scaling up the deployment of #efficient #districtheating and #cooling in Europe.    🤓Ready to take note?   ✅𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹- A roadmap to accelerate industrial decarbonisation by tackling high energy prices, slow permitting & access to finance, introducing: 🔹A flexibility remuneration framework by Q4 2025, balancing volatile electricity prices and integrating renewables. 🔹Implementation dialogues to fast-track permitting under the RED, alongside the Industrial Decarbonisation Act (end of 2024) to simplify clean tech investments. 🔹A €100B Innovation Fund and an Industrial Decarbonisation Bank to de-risk private investments in clean energy, a crucial initiative for DHC. 🔹A new State Aid framework to fast-track approvals for renewable energy, flexibility, and private finance de-risking.   ✅𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆- A structured approach to lower energy bills while boosting flexibility, including: 🔹A Clean Energy Investment Strategy in 2025 that will help de-risk investments in renewable heating and cooling, including geothermal, highlighted as a next-generation clean tech. 🔹Ambitious permitting reforms to cut approval times to 6–24 months. 🔹A call to accelerate grid modernisation, including heat networks.   👉 Overall, this is a great win for our sector. The Commission is finally acknowledging heating & cooling’s role in the EU's clean energy future. With 41.3 % of RES share in EU, DHC is a pivotal solution to decarbonise heating and cooling.   Now, delivery and investment are key to turning strategy into action, as our very own Pauline Lucas puts it:   “We find it encouraging to see the renewed focus on heating and cooling decarbonisation. DHC is a flagship homegrown solution that can drive down energy costs and enhance energy security. Yet, unlocking both private and public investment and streamlining permitting for renewable projects and energy storage are only the first steps.
