« Le Noël de mes rêves » just became a reality. A year ago we were in #Strasbourg at European Parliament ( where I took this photo) advocating for the prioritization of the health of over 440 million people. The European Union has just adopted Council Conclusions that will set a milestone for the continent’s #cardiovascular health. Why this matters? #Cardiovascular disease (CVD) – the leading cause of death in the EU and globally – affects more than 60 million Europeans, accounts for over 1.7 million deaths annually on the continent, and costs its economy an estimated €282 billion each year. EACH Partners have entrusted the European Society of Cardiology to continue providing Secretariat support for the Alliance in 2025 🎉 ! The Alliance has grown to 2️⃣1️⃣ European and international health organisations who have joined forces to call on the EU to elaborate an ambitious plan to address the burden of CVD and really make a difference by improving the lives of millions of people. Together, we can do more to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, which is still the leading cause of death in Europe and impacting the lives of millions of Europeans every day. #CVHealthForAll

It was a blast ! Brussels couldn’t be more vocal this week on the need to deliver better for its European citizens on Europe’s top two killer diseases: cardiovascular disease and cancer. While Commissioner Varhelyi is now ready to take office, the European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health (EACH) and its members are ready to support the deliver of an EU #CardiovascularHealth Plan. Great conference with opening remarks from @Csaba Contor; amazing @Cecilia Linde and outstanding input from all panellists. Meantime, at the #PoliticoHealthCare Summit a strong message was conveyed about NCDs on integrating strategies which do not encompass only lifestyle approaches ; NCDs and cancer should not be perceived as merely lifestyle diseases; primary prevention policies are in place but evidence shows that numbers are not falling – And last but not least to finish the week; The European Cancer Organisation Summit and a truly implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan: prevent the preventable, deploy and embrace digital transformation in healthcare, personalised care and deliver better on survivorship and quality of life for European citizens. My key takeaways from this week's conferences: - Competitiveness before access: First, we need to get medicines to Europe, and then we can work together to get equitable access to them - The time is now to make the change for Cardiovascular Disease - There will be no change if we don’t switch the focus from lifestyle prevention strategies to secondary prevention and early detection; European citizens needs support in management of their health conditions - It is fundamental for health to be part of any EU preparedness union strategy; its not about which Commissioner will take the dossier but working together to achieve a truly European Health Union Excited about the months to come and looking forward to 2025 already !
