Limits, not targets #Fatigue25

The Latvian Aviation Union has filed an industrial complaint against airBaltic over policies targeting employees who refused to fly to Tel Aviv this summer. Currently, these flights are suspended, creating an opportunity for the airline and the Union to negotiate on critical protections for the crew when flights resume. Key issues raised include: 👉 Proper risk assessment for flights into conflict zones, including psychological risks. 👉 Adequate insurance coverage for those who choose to fly. 👉 Ensuring participation is voluntary, with fair additional compensation for higher-risk assignments. 👉 Enhanced security measures for operating in conflict areas. However, airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss has dismissed these concerns: "If we start a right of refusal, then where do we stop? [When] the next person feels unhappy overflying Iraqi airspace because there's tension there?" he told Reuters on Dec. 2 in response to queries about airBaltic flight safety talks with unions.

Pilots rely on airlines' internal risk assessments to determine if a route or airspace is safe. Yet, they are often left in the dark about how these decisions are made. If an airline deems a route safe but won’t share its reasoning, questions and uncertainty arise, especially when other airlines avoid the same airspace.
