Very grateful to have had the opportunity to present the exciting research I’ve been carrying out with Alberto Aziani and Ali Shadman at #ASC2024 in parrellel with research by FERMI EU. Beyond digging into the potential relationship between conspiracy theories and hate crimes - our work has been trialing new deep learning applications in the social sciences.
[IX] Transcrime @ #ASC2024 | Can #AI predict conspiracies' impact on crime levels? Thanks to #deeplearning capabilities, we are one step closer to understanding a controversial link: the potential for racially and politically charged #conspiracytheories to drive real-world #hatecrime. Transcrime's research in the EU-funded FERMI EU project, presented by Michael Victor Lo Giudice, analyses this nexus from an undervalued angle: rather than focusing on the supply of harmful content (articles, blogs and posts), we looked at its demand. By analysing #GoogleTrends data on online searches for conspiracy theories in Michigan, we found supporting evidence of a correlation between theories that focused on the #Rothschild family, #QAnon and the #GreatReplacement, and the occurrence of hate crime incidents. 👉 Discover how the predictive power of AI has been used in #FERMI to assess the impact of the spread of #disinformation online: https://lnkd.in/edNM62Ar Authors: Michael Victor Lo Giudice, Alberto Aziani, Ali Shadman
