One year after the launch of the #AntwerpDeclaration, Lucie Boost, GIE Secretary General, is among the 400 business leaders, industry representatives, and workers from across Europe gathered in Antwerp to discuss the newly unveiled #CleanIndustrialDeal with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Declining demand, stalled investments, and high energy prices are putting Europe’s future at risk. The #CleanIndustrialDeal reflects 9 out of 10 calls from the #AntwerpDeclaration. EU Heads of State must take urgent action across all EU Member States without delay. As a signatory of the Antwerp Declaration, GIE and Europe’s industries are ready to do their part. Now it’s time for EU leaders to #DeliverTheDeal. To secure Europe’s future and revitalise our industry, we need: ✅ Concrete steps implemented at the national level ✅ Policies that strengthen Europe’s ability to compete globally ✅ A restored business case for investing in Europe GIE reinforces its commitment to a strong, resilient, decarbonized European industry. In parallel, GIE 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫, highlighting how energy infrastructure, gas innovations, and clean tech solutions must be at the heart of this transformation. 🔜 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐈𝐄’𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞! 🗣️ Lucie Boost, GIE Secretary General, participated in the recent #EEF_EnergyDebate on “𝐵𝑖𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑈: 𝑎𝑑𝑣𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑒𝑥𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑔𝑎𝑠 𝑖𝑛𝑓𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒”. During her presentation, she highlighted how #biomethane can accelerate Europe’s #decarbonisation efforts while making full use of our existing gas infrastructure. 🔑 𝐻𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑒𝑦 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠: 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠: Integrating gas and electricity infrastructure is essential to ensuring a reliable and affordable energy supply. 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 & 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: As a renewable energy source produced in Europe, biomethane is fully compatible with existing gas networks. However, geographical and temporal mismatches in production and demand must be addressed. 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Large existing pipelines play a crucial role in biomethane distribution, while underground gas storage helps balance seasonal and base load supply fluctuations. 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 & 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥: Connecting biomethane plants to the transmission grid requires relatively modest costs. Additionally, biomethane contributes to a circular economy by enabling bio-CO₂ production for e-fuels and supporting sector integration. 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Strengthening the cross-border tradability of guarantees of origin is key to professionalising the biomethane industry and promoting a more integrated European energy market.
