There is No Such Thing as Waste, Only Wasted Resources

About us

ORBIX, IN SYMBIOSIS WITH CIRCULAR ECONOMY Closing material and CO2 loops Creating value We produce materials through innovative technologies and in a sustainable way. Our ambition is clear: to achieve zero waste in all our activities. We recover different waste streams / co-products and value them as new materials that can be reused for various applications. Orbix develops sustainable materials and technologies for the construction and steelmaking sector (road building, concrete, civil engineering works, etc.). The innovative technologies we develop, we put them in place at home, and our vocation is also to implement them in other companies. For instance, our innovative carbonation technology, Carbstone Innovation, aims to produce building materials with a very low environmental impact and negative CO2 emission. Since 1996, we have been recovering waste and co-products from the steel industry and we are exploiting natural raw materials. In addition, we offer our customers and partners logistics and storage services. In 2016, TRC is renamed Orbix. The head office is in Genk (Belgium). The subsidiaries Recmix and Elzasel are now part of this new company. The name Orbix was not chosen at random, it refers to "orbis", which means "circle" in Latin. A name that is fully in line with our circular vision of the company.

𝗣𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. On November 5th, at the Industrya conference, experts and innovators came together to share bold solutions for CO₂ recycling. One standout moment was the presentation of the CO2ncreat project by Julien Cruz from Fluxys, showcasing a revolutionary approach: capturing CO₂ directly at its source to create sustainable construction materials. In partnership with Lhoist, Fluxys, and Prefer, this project aims to recycle an impressive 12,000 tons of CO₂ annually. With Orbix’s advanced technology and expertise in sustainable materials, we’re contributing to a cleaner, circular future for the construction industry. A heartfelt thank you to Industrya and Thibaud Le Séguillon for organizing this inspiring event and for their commitment to championing sustainability and innovation in our sector.

  • On September 21st, Orbix took part in distributing food and school supplies that we had collected for people in need in the greater Charleroi region. Thanks to the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, more than 200 packages were distributed. A big round of applause to Karine, the head of the foundation, and Walter Chardon for all the hard work they put in. If you too would like to make a donation or lend a helping hand, don’t hesitate to get in touch with them.

This factory produces the CO₂-negative Pirrouet façade bricks, which use the advanced Carbstone® technology developed by Orbix. In the 1990s, Orbix discovered that steel waste could be transformed into a hard material through a reaction with CO₂. After years of research, we developed our Carbstone® technology. Thanks to our partnership with Vandersanden, CO₂-negative Pirrouet façade bricks are now being produced on a large scale. Vandersanden manufactures these bricks in various colors and formats from Aperam's stainless steel slag, using Orbix's technology. This is a strong example of sustainable innovation and collaboration between companies! To a sustainable future! 🥂 (In the photo are our founders: Serge Celis and Danny Vanschoonbeek, among others.)

V.O.F. De Amstel and BAM Wonen, both of which prioritize sustainability and innovation, went to see how Vandersanden's CO2-negative Pirrouette facade brick is made at their production site. This brick is made possible by Orbix's Carbstone® technology. That means: The hardening process of this brick doesn’t merely avoid additional CO2 emissions; it tackles the issue from another angle. By incorporating CO2 into the production process, these bricks actively absorb and sequester carbon dioxide, more so than any other building product. Want to know more about our Carbstone® technology? Feel free to contact us or visit our website at www.orbix.be.
