🌍 The PrAEctiCe project, in which our GeMMA laboratory participates, is paving the way for environmentally friendly agri-food systems in East Africa! Funded under the Horizon Europe program, the project aims to encourage the transition to agroecological practices by leveraging advanced technology and innovation to support smallholder farmers. Our goal is to improve food security, strengthen agricultural resilience, and promote the sustainable use of resources such as energy, water, and nutrients. 💡 As part of the project, we are developing digital decision support tools that will: - Provide tailored advice and data for farmers and advisors. - Integrate modern technologies such as mobile applications, sensors, and data collection platforms. - Ensure access to useful information even for those with limited digital resources via SMS and other solutions. 📢 At the recent PrAEctiCe Agroecology Summit, the head of our laboratory, Prof. Dr. Domen Mongus, presented advanced solutions to accelerate the transition to agroecology using digital tools. 🧐 Why does this matter? By bringing together researchers, farmers, and industry stakeholders, we are bridging the gap between traditional practices and modern technology, contributing to sustainable development in Africa and beyond. Aquaculture Africa 2024 (#AFRAQ2024)... 4 long days for George D. Mantas and me (representing AquaBioTech Group, FoodLAND Africa and PrAEctiCe), starting with the special session of U.S. Grains Council and continuing with the main Conference and Exhibition from the World Aquaculture Society in Hammamet (Tunisia), however the pleasure of meeting our partners (Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer I.N.S.T.M, PHARMAQ part of Zoetis, Institut National Agronomique de Tunisie, The World Bank, FAO, NORCE Norwegian Research Centre, etc), the acquaintances we made and the knowledge and ideas we exchanged with so many producers, tradesmen and scientists, surely rewarded us. There are some brilliant minds taking over fish-farming all over the world and future can only a bit brighter. Oh and my young Tunisians friends, so hungry for knowledge and work, that can only fill you with hope for the future of the African continent. My tour in Tunisia for AquaBioTech Group hasn't finished yet as i am moving further South in the following days. P.S. I am going to forget a lot of people and apologies. I 've lost count! 🌱 CANALLS at the 1st Forum on Agroecology in the Congo Basin! 🌍 On November 19, 2024, the CANALLS project was proudly featured at the 1st Forum on Agroecology in 📍 Yaoundé, Cameroon! This forum provided an ideal platform for discussions on the transition to agroecological food systems and tackling environmental challenges, with a focus on empowering women and youth who are at the forefront of innovative agroecological practices 💪👩🌾👨🌾.
