Can demolition and dismantling activities help build a better future? 🌍 Baukarussell is paving the way in Austria by facilitating partnerships between social enterprises and construction companies through its innovative social urban mining initiative. As one key social enterprise partner, Job-TransFair gemeinnützige GmbH carries out the careful manual dismantling of buildings. This process not only ensures that reusable materials are kept in a closed loop but also provides transit workers with invaluable skills, preparing them to integrate into the traditional labour market. 🎥 Curious to learn more? Thank you to Ecotextile News for the opportunity to discuss the used and waste textile crisis and its impact on social enterprises! 🚨 Fast fashion has filled the market with low-quality clothes made from fossil fuels at an alarming rate. The current systems cannot keep up, leaving operators with reusable items they cannot sell or store indefinitely. Social enterprises face the biggest challenges. As mission-driven organisations, they operate with unique constraints. Unlike private companies, their profits are reinvested into their social and environmental goals, focusing on job creation over competitiveness. 📨 Together with ACR+ | Association of Cities and Regions for sustainable Resource management and Zero Waste Europe we sent an open letter to EU and national policymakers, urging them to unlock emergency funding that aligns with the waste hierarchy, prioritising local and regional reuse efforts. This support is crucial for bridging the gap until Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems are operational. You can find the open letter in the comments below. 👇
🎙️NEW PODCAST EPISODE- European textile recycling on brink of collapse🎙️ Our podcast host Philip Berman sits down with Marie-Jeanne Gaertner, project and policy officer at RREUSE - Reuse and Recycling European Union Social Enterprises to find out why the #textile reuse and #recycling sector in the #EuropeanUnion is facing an unprecedented #crisis. Gaertner says that a recent open letter to the European Commission and member states, penned by RREUSE, explains why the sector is on the brink of #financial collapse, with social #enterprises bearing the brunt of this turmoil. B2B partnerships empower social enterprises to scale their impact—and that’s what our BuySocCirc project is all about! 👇 This EU-funded initiative explores how collaboration between businesses and social enterprises can extend product lifespans, create inclusive jobs, and drive a fairer, greener economy. 🔄 In France, ecosystem, the national Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO), closely collaborates with Fédération Envie to tackle electrical and electronic waste. Ecosystem allocates a quota of discarded appliances, and with the invaluable skills of Envie’s trained insertion employees, these items are expertly repaired and given a new lease on life before finding new owners. Curious to see how this collaboration unfolds? Watch our case study video! 🎥 #WeBuySocialEU #CircularEconomy #SocialEnterprises #SocialAndCircular #Partnerships

How can social enterprises and private companies collaborate to foster a local, social & circular economy? 🔄 In Belgium, Ateljee Kringwinkel and BSH Group have joined forces to give discarded household appliances a second life. BSH provides returned appliances by customers to Ateljee, where trained insertion employees repair and refurbish them. 🛠️ These items are then sold at affordable prices through Ateljee VZW’s shops, reducing waste and making quality appliances accessible to more people. Not only does this collaboration help extend the lifespan of electrical and electronic equipment, but it also empowers social enterprises by creating inclusive job opportunities focused on reuse. ⬇️ Watch the story and explore more case study videos from the "Buying Social and Circular" project. #SocialAndCircular #SecondHandFirst #WeBuySocialEU #SocialEntreprise #CircularEconomy

How can social enterprises and private companies co-create a local, social & circular economy? Meet Humana Nova, a social cooperative based in Zagreb, Croatia, which has partnered with Regeneracija, a local company devoted to transforming textile waste into insulation felt. 👉 Here's how it works: Humana Nova collects locally sourced textile waste and hands it to Regeneracija. They process this waste into high-quality felt, which then returns to Humana Nova, where it's packed by workers with disabilities or from marginalised groups.
