🌍✨ 2024: An active year for SCAPR ✨🌍   As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on a few key events that shaped our year:   🧑🏫 Working Group Meetings in Madrid & Dublin These in-person gatherings provided an essential platform for our #members to delve deeper into ongoing topics, exchange insights, and strengthen professional connections.   🎬 Actors' Summits Co-organised with AEPO-ARTIS, these forums addressed critical issues faced by #CMOs representing #actors. This year, summits were held in Budapest and in London.   🗺️ Participation in International Conferences SCAPR actively contributed to global discussions, sharing best practices on CMO operations and the importance of robust #performers identification system—highlighted notably at a World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO/ARIPO conference on copyright in Harare, in the WIPO/ORDA 6th IP conference in Bucharest or in the CPRA Asian CMOs Forum in Hanoi.   🎙️ African Performers' Event in South Africa: In collaboration with WIPO and our local member SAMPRA, this event brought together representatives from CMOs and IPOs across 12 African countries as well as more than 100 representatives from SCAPR members, fostering stronger international cooperation.   🖥️ VRDB Workshops: Our VRDB Information System facilitates seamless repertoire and usage data exchanges among SCAPR members. This year, our IT Coordinator, Julio Cesar Alvarez Fernandez, provided tailored training sessions to FKMP, CPRA, SAMPRA reinforcing our commitment to supporting members’ integration into this vital system. Our AV forum, also dedicated 2 sessions, in London and in Lisbon, to the onboarding of societies representing actors.   🤝 IPN Creation Agreement with FILAIE In 2024, SCAPR signed a framework agreement with FILAIE to facilitate the onboarding of its members onto the #IPN Creation App. This tool empowers CMOs to create IPNs for their #performers and retrieve existing IPNs from the database. This milestone marks a significant step forward in integrating Latin American performers into SCAPR's international exchange network.   ✨ Thank you to all our members, partners, and collaborators for an impactful year. 🔦 Inside SCAPR: the Convenors   At SCAPR, we deeply value the contributions of our members. Many of our colleagues dedicate their time and expertise to lead our working groups, committees, and fora. Elected by their peers, our Convenors play a vital role by chairing meetings and ensuring that the tasks decided upon by these groups are effectively implemented.   🌍🎬🎶Their countless hours of dedication and collaboration are essential to achieving SCAPR’s mission: to facilitate the exchange of #data and #remuneration among #CMOs, ensuring that #performers receive fair payment for the use of their performances worldwide.   🙏 A heartfelt thanks to Olga Madera Lastra, Sander Teekens, Camilla Waite, Gregor Stibernik, Greta Ferrario, Konstantin Vogel, Milan ter Weijden, Laurence Oxenbury, Martina Andersson, Marc Danger, Francisco Giménez Merchante, Diederik Mos, Bruno G., Christophe Van Vaerenbergh for your commitment and for the nice collaboration.

🔊🌍This week, SCAPR had the great opportunity to participate to the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO-ARIPO Seminar on "Copyright: A driver of the Creative Economy" in Harare. Our representative, Ntsietso Mokitimi-Makhofola, of our member SAMPRA was invited to comment the emerging challenges of rights management. The globalisation and digitalisation of creative contents consumption are both an opportunity and a challenge for #performers. The #CMOs strive to ensure that they can be identified and paid for all the use of their #performances. They can count on SCAPR to support their efforts. Thanks to Ntsietso Mokitimi-Makhofola, for representing SCAPR, to WIPO (in particular Sherine Greiss) and ARIPO for allowing the performers' voice to be heard.

Yesterday, in parallel of attending the Forum on Performers' Rights Management in Asian Countries hosted in Hanoi by the performers' CMO #APPA, I had the opportunity to visit the Copyright Office of Vietnam. Together with Kyoko Kojima and Stefan Lagrell, both members of the SCAPR Board, we met Ms. Pham Thi Kim Oanh, Deputy Director of Copyright Department in Vietnam, and her team. After sharing a bit about SCAPR's role, global reach and the diversity of our members' #CMOs, we discussed the existing framework for copyright protection for performers in Vietnam and explore opportunities to strengthen local CMOs and notably those collecting performers' rights. We confirmed SCAPR and its community of CMOs willingness to collaborate with the Copyright Office of Vietnam and APPA, notably via assisting in capacity-building, training, and promoting best practices. It was well received by our hosts and we look forward to collaborating with them in the near future.

Yesterday and today, SCAPR is attending the Forum on Performers' rights Management in Asian Countries in Hanoi, hosted by the Vietnamese Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) #APPA and co-organized by SCAPR Japanese member #CPRA. 20 representatives of #CMOs from India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam are actively taking part to this forum, sharing their recent developments, exchanging best practices and sharing operational experiences notably on membership registration, local databases, negotiation with users, collection, allocation and payment. All for the continuous improvement of the CMOs' operations and ultimately for the benefit of the performers they represent. Remy Desrosiers had the opportunity to present SCAPR's structure, governance, role and missions and to take part in the rich discussions. Julio-Cesar Alvarez highlighted the importance of data and introduced in depth all the information systems developed by SCAPR. Thank you Kyoko Kojima for inviting SCAPR and thank you #APPA for the great organisation.

🎤 On the 13th and 14th of November, SCAPR was invited to participate to the "Sixth Regional Conference on IP in the Digital Economy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs): Music Industry in the Digital Environment" organised in Bucharest by World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO in cooperation with the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA), the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) and the Romanian American University in Bucharest.   🎼 Pal Tomori, director of our Hungarian member EJI and expert of our Cooperation and Development Working Group, kindly intervened on behalf of our organisation on the topic of international perspective of rights management in the music sector.   📤 The opportunity to remind of the importance of #international #cooperation between CMOs to get the #performers paid for the use of their performances all over the world. This going, with no doubt, along with the reliable and efficient data exchanges through centralized information systems, such as #IPD and #VRDB and the use of unique identifiers, such as the #IPN.   Many thanks WIPO, ORDA, OSIM and the Romanian American University of Bucharest for the invitation and to Pal for being such a great ambassador!

🤝 SCAPR and FILAIE Sign Landmark Agreement on #IPN Access We are thrilled to announce the signing of a landmark framework agreement with FILAIE (the Ibero-Latin-American Federation of Performers), granting all FILAIE-affiliated Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) access to SCAPR’s International Performer Number (#IPN) Creation Tool. New SCAPR CMO Tutorial Released: Supervision and Monitoring of CMOs   We’re excited to launch the latest video in SCAPR’s Tutorial series: Supervision and Monitoring of CMOs. This marks the sixth tutorial in a series designed to share insights and expertise from SCAPR professionals on core topics within CMO operations.   This video examines the importance of internal and external supervision, covering the roles of the key stakeholders responsible for overseeing CMO activities—both within the organisation and via independent parties. By establishing clear supervisory practices, CMOs can better fulfil their mission to serve performers effectively.   A special thanks to Markus Bos, CEO of SENA, for his invaluable contribution as the speaker for this tutorial!
