Innovation pitches at Igniting Tomorrow's Ideas - Technovation Hub
After nearly 600 3rd Bachelor students of the KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering Technology met the 11 student teams of Technovation Hub on 21 November, the evening at Group T Campus was dedicated to team-leader pitches around their innovations. Three teams are led by a woman:
Jena Amand (iGEM KU Leuven ), among others, presented their project NeoMineX, which separates multiple types of metals from wastewater. This combats environmental pollution and reduces the need for conventional mining. Their goal is to create biofibres that can be reused to clean and repair metals.
Phaedra Imschoot (Emergent Leuven) talked about their project where they map food surpluses at supermarkets, their event ‘Women in Data Science’ and their new AI component EMBER.
Sofia Gonzalez Mezquita (NeuroTech Leuven) presented their hackatons and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) projects, including the quantification of olfactory disorders in neurodegenerative diseases, and ‘The MindWitcher’: by integrating EEG technology in the game ‘The Witcher 3’, players can control actions via signals in their brain.
The evening was further framed by innovation presentations from partner companies INEOS and Comate Engineering & Design. Elia Transmission Belgium joined the stands of student teams in the Atrium. All this provided an excellent networking opportunity: participants interacted with industry experts, students, and representatives of partner companies, leading to inspiring exchanges and valuable connections.
This was followed by pitches from students of the Postgraduate Programme in Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Engineering (PION), guided by Katleen Lodewyckx, Educational officer PION.
Many thanks also to Dean Wim Dewulf, who opened the evening, and organiser Sam Biermans Coordinator of Technovation Hub, for this fantastic initiative!
