What were the key outcomes and indicators around the international work of a City of Culture Evaluation approaches to the international aspects of a City of Culture. What considerations are needed when planning the evaluation approach around the international strand to a City of Culture? What this means in practice: what does this mean for Bradford 2025? Where are the opportunities NOW in Bradford to develop and embed a longitudinal study, utilising some of the Bradford 2025 signature projects and evaluation projects as both case studies and sources of data and insight? The Top 5 European Cities 🏙️ A new report measures the attractiveness of European cities based on a few key factors: culture, green spaces, education, and work opportunities. These were categorized as livability, lovability, and prosperity. While Paris ranked first for sights and landmarks, London’s culture secured its position as the overall leader on the list. 🖌️ Created by Pauline Baudry

🌍✨ The European Commission and the EHL Bureau are inviting cultural heritage sites to apply for the European Heritage Label! ✨🌍 🙌 The European Heritage Label is an initiative of the European Commission aimed at highlighting fundamental European values, shared history, culture, and cultural heritage. This initiative contributes to fostering a sense of belonging to the Union and promoting intercultural dialogue, especially among European youth. 🏅 The awarding of the Label occurs every two years, with each EU Member State eligible to submit a maximum of two Site proposals to the European Commission, with one site eligible for selection. 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚 👉 Candidate Sites for the European Heritage Label must demonstrate in their application their intrinsic European values and the role they played in European culture and history and/or the build-up of the Union. We have gathered deadlines for a few of the EU countries as follows: Italy: Application deadline is November 7, 2024. Czechia: National deadline is November 15, 2024. Romania: Application deadline is November 15, 2024. Latvia: Deadline for national pre-selection is November 18, 2024. Portugal: Application deadline is November 29, 2024. Austria: The deadline was September 1, 2024; pre-selection is ongoing, with full applications due by December 31, 2024. Bulgaria: Submission deadline is January 15, 2025. 🌟 We also want to acknowledge the Sites from countries where the application process has already closed. Best of luck to all candidates from the following countries: Belgium: Closed in early September. Spain: National candidacy deadline was September 13, 2024. Netherlands: National deadline is October 1, 2024. Finland: Closed in June 2024. Germany: The national submission deadline for the 2025 selection round passed on November 30, 2023. The next submission deadline for the 2027 selection round will be on November 30, 2025. 5 Lessons I Learned Visiting the European Quarter in Brussels 1. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 🌍 The European Quarter isn’t just a symbol of political power, it’s also a reflection of Europe’s rich cultural diversity. Walking through its streets, you quickly realize the blend of languages, cultures and traditions that coexist in one place. L͟e͟s͟s͟o͟n͟ ͟I͟ ͟l͟e͟a͟r͟n͟e͟d͟: Embrace the importance of diversity and how different cultures can live together in harmony. 2. 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🌐 One of the most inspiring things about the European Quarter is the multitude of opportunities to work in a truly international setting. I got a taste of this during the "IC Explore the EU" experience (organized by International Community NGO). L͟e͟s͟s͟o͟n͟ ͟I͟ ͟l͟e͟a͟r͟n͟e͟d͟: The European Quarter is a hub for career opportunities, providing a unique chance to work in diverse, multicultural environments while contributing to the future of Europe. 3. 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 🏛️ Brussels hosts the European Parliament and other major institutions, but being there allows you to see how political decisions affect everyday life. It’s fascinating to realize how close citizens are to the institutions that represent them. L͟e͟s͟s͟o͟n͟ ͟I͟ ͟l͟e͟a͟r͟n͟e͟d͟: Politics is not as distant as it seems; there are ways to engage and better understand decisions that impact all of Europe. 4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 🕰️➡️🏙️ The European Quarter is a fascinating example of how modern architecture blends with the city’s rich history. From sleek glass buildings to historic parks like Parc Léopold, you can see how Brussels is evolving while keeping a strong connection to its past. L͟e͟s͟s͟o͟n͟ ͟I͟ ͟l͟e͟a͟r͟n͟e͟d͟: Progress and innovation don’t mean forgetting the past; both can coexist in harmony. 5. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 🗣️💬 In Brussels, especially in the European Quarter, being multilingual is not just a skill —it’s an essential tool for connection and collaboration. From French and Dutch to English, German, and beyond, communicating in different languages opens doors to new perspectives and relationships. L͟e͟s͟s͟o͟n͟ ͟I͟ ͟l͟e͟a͟r͟n͟e͟d͟: The ability to speak different languages enriches your experience and allows for deeper connections with people from all over the world. Each of these lessons highlights a different facet of how exploring the European Quarter is not just a touristic experience, but a powerful opportunity to reflect on Europe’s diversity, politics, career opportunities and the richness of multilingualism. I am really thankful for being able to take this trip!
