"Bij de restauratie van het Lam Gods in de Gentse Sint-Baafskathedraal zijn er overschilderingen uit de 16de eeuw ontdekt. De figuren Johannes de Doper, Maria en de Godheid kregen toen een nieuwe laag. In die tijd werd schade gewoon overschilderd, in plaats van gerestaureerd. Die extra lagen worden nu weggehaald. Tijdens de restauratiewerken zijn overschilderingen vastgesteld, die niet door Van Eyck zelf zijn aangebracht. "Dat op zich is niet vreemd", vertelt Camille De Clercq, hoofd conservatie en restauratie van het Koninklijk Instituut voor het Kunstpatrimonium (KIK)." As a conservator, I can then connect with the moment when the masterpiece was first created.' Hilary Bradt, co-founder of Bradt Guides, recently visited Ghent. She was invited by Atlas & Zanzibar. She's happy to share her thoughts on Ghent. "I was impressed by the diversity in the cityscape. In several areas, you see a mix of old and new buildings indicating a city in development, which is very positive. In addition, the old town is a gem, which I did not expect to see, or at least not at this level. I just loaved the boat trip.... Ghent is a very vibrant city. Not just another tourist city. I spoke to Els Uytterhoeven, policy advisor at the department of Culture. The approach for the candidature of Ghent to become City of Culture in 2030 (Gent2030) is in my opinion very interesting. The participative aspect of it, trying to involve and include every population group in the development and experience of the city, is very valuable.    Last but not least, I was very impressed by the restoration of the Mystic Lamb and the meeting with Hélène Dubois at The Museum of Fine Arts (Museum voor Schone Kunsten Gent), which also houses some wonderful works by Bosch that delighted me."
